Just got an Ipod and am looking for MP3 sources. Not looking for any illegal sources! I am sure that there are many services out there; are there any good deals that are legal and don’t violate copyright laws? Of course, I am familiar with Itunes and have purchased several songs there already. Just looking at all options. Thanks a bunch!
allofmp3.com is a site out of Russia that sells songs for $.02 (American) per megabyte, which depending on quality is a little under $.10 per song. There is no digital rights mangement on any of the songs you download. The Russian government says it is legal. Biggest negative is you have to give your credit card number to some Russian company. So far no problems though.
along similar lines, i’ve been thinking about joining www.wippit.com, a UK company that operates on a subscription basis- most songs are included in the recurring fee, some cost extra.
The best I’ve found so far is Wal Mart @ $.88 a song or full albums for < $10. I don’t think their music library is as extensive as some of your main stream music sites, but I’ve gotten everything I’ve needed so far…
ok…thanks for the info on the Russian site. Now…what format should I request? I have an ipod and also Oakley Thumps. The Oakleys will not play the ipod format unless I burn a disc. What is a good “all-purpose” format that can play on all mp3 players? Thanks again…
While I think it’s wrong to download whole albums, I don’t see what’s wrong with dowloading songs. What’s the difference between using a p2p site and borrowing a cd/album/tape from a friend and copying some songs? Most of the stuff i download are either different versions (live, acoustic, etc.) or songs that are the one song on a cd that I would want.
IPODs and Windows based MP3 players use different Digital Rights Management schemes. That is why the are not compatabile with each other. But there is a way around this. This easiest way is just burn a CD of the songs that you acquired from a non-ITunes source. Then you can rip them back with ITunes and load them into your IPOD or you can also do the reverse for Windows based MP3 players. Its a pain, but it allows you to get around the DRM issues.
You can type in songs, artists or albums and it will list information about where you can download them if available (legally). Also, if you are interested in interval training coaching or motivational Mp3 downloads, a friend has recently started a new venture (www.fitbeats.com) check it out. It is still relatively new but more is on the way soon.
