My 6 year old black lab is sick. Throwing up, lost 8 lbs in 2 months. Going to the vet. Life is sad.

oh, so sorry to hear this. please keep us posted. that must be so hard to deal with! my heart goes out to you, for real. hopefully the pup will pull out of it quickly!

As a partner ( i hate saying owner) of two black labs our thoughts are with you. I’ll make sure my two, patty and layla, say a doggy prayer or whatever it is they do.
Best of luck. I don’t handle my dogs being sick very well! Does he/she throw up all the time? Sometimes when my choc lab exercises too quickly after eating, and its super hot out, she will throw up. How big is he/she, 8lbs sounds like alot of weight. How it all turns out ok!

we moved into a new house memorial day weekend, and he’s lost weight since then. no funky stuff around the house, just neighborhood cats. good thing i used to work for my vet for 11 years. he’s been tossing up off and on for about a week. my experience is when a lab is sick, it’s no good. i’ve seen them eat spoons and 7 feet of berber carpet and still show no signs of being sick.

ohhhh it’s so tough when animals are sick! If one of my brothers pukes, big deal, but if it’s the cat I’m sooo sympathetic… hope the vet can help!

Have you tried putting the pup on the BRAT diet for a while (bananas, rice, applesauce & toast). It’s what you give a human child with gastro problems to settle their tummy down. We have to do it to our girl (5 year old yellow lab) every now and then when she gets into the chicken coop and O.D.'s on chichken poop.
We’ve been through and conquered cancer with her at age 3 and I know what it’s like to see your pup sick and being helpless to fix it right away. Keep the faith and good luck, I’ll have my pups send dreams of bully sticks to your loved one tonight!

my 11 year old yellow lab has been sorta dry heaving for a couple of months now. nothing really comes out except some spittle. the vet says she has an enlarged heart and she’s trying to expel fluid. losing weight has helped her but i think the clock is ticking.

the pup is ok. he’s sleeping in the hallway. a bit of gastritis, so we got the good belly healing food and some pepcid. i hate to take him in if he’s not on death’s door, i get made fun of for being an overprotective mom. good co-workers they are… all is well for now. thanks to all for the puppy wishes. i’ll send them along to the big bug dog!
Our 9 year old Rat terrier was going through the same type of symptoms last year. His belly was distended with water retention, and he was losing weight. Congestive Heart Failure due to significant heart murmer.
He is on Lasix and Enalapril, and has been doing quite well since, so don’t give up hope.

My vet basically knows me by my voice when I call! haa! I know the over protective thing all to well! I have a 6 y/o yellow, he’s sending lots of doggy healings to his fellow black labby!

Pets can be the greatest thing in the world, but when you lose them, it really, really hurts. I had to put my dog to sleep because of cancer three days after IM CDA last year. I’m not sure I’m over it yet.
