I do live here. San Jose. Lived in San Diego in the late 90’s.
"In 10 years your $500K house will be worth $3 million? You must buy lottery tickets too, eh? Heck why don’t you hold out for 20 years and buy Bill Gates house? Gimme a break. Was your house worth $85,000 10 years ago? Didn’t think so. "
One of the houses down the street was $20,000 when it was purchased in 1955, it is appraised for $1,000,000 today
Unless you live here you may not believe it for yourself
Where in OK are you moving, if you don’t mind my asking?
Norman.
Cool, I’m right down the road. Hope you like it here.
Nice town. Hope you enjoy.
Robb-
I moved to Oklahoma last Augst (wife is military). Anyway, I couldn’t get over the heat. It was over 105 for the whole first week we were here. Winds are a bitch, like you said. Made riding hard. Made running really, really hard. But I have to disagree with you on the winter. I thought the winter was cake. When I got here, I went to the LBS and asked the guy about riding in the winter and what it was like. He said it rarely goes below 40. He was right. Besides the wind, the temps were easy for the winter.
<< Even if it’s not in our life time, the thought of it is enough to keep me away from Cali.
well I hope you don’t drive, chances of getting in an automobile accident are higher.
Hope you don’t ride a bike either, chances of a bike accident are also higher.
And heaven forbid you go diving, chances of a dive accident are probably higher also.
Your comments about california; I could not have said it better. Born here, grew up here, lived in LA all my life. This place has completely gone to shit. So many people I know are wanting to get out…I bought a house in LA 18 months ago for $249K. Just sold it for $360K. I just bought a brand new house in Gilbert, AZ. A huge place…a similar house in SoCal would cost $700K. I paid $225K. It might be hot, but I think the quality of life in Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe is far superior to LA
Willy, you lucky stiff! I love Pacifica! I spent a few days there in December on my way to Hawaii. It was great! We stayed at the brand new Hotel Pacifica and it was so new we could still smell the paint drying. They didn't even know how to run a hotel yet. Each day we ran on the trail along the beach over that big hill, or was there two of them, from the hotel to the pier and back. Who would have thought such a beautiful little beach town would be sitting right next to SF.
I'm always looking at the real estate listings, thinking that I might move there when I retire. Don't laugh. I live on Long Island and work in NYC. Average price on LI went over $500,000 long ago and, get this, av price of an APARTMENT in NYC is $1.5 million!
One question; we were worried about bicycling. How do you get out of town on a bicycle? On RT 1?
Yeah I should’ve clarified. We’re a southern state, so by definition we get mild winters. Definitely not anything like the North!
But I’m a big wussy when it comes to the cold. Below 60 degrees and I don’t want any part of it.
Sweeney,
Thanks, we really like Pacifica. It kind of reminds us of the small towns north of San Diego where I grew up. it is a great place to raise kids as there are a ton of them. No graffiti, no gangs and everyone thinks we have fog year round. The town just north of us, Daly City, has all the fog and it really only effects the northern part of Pacifica.
We live in the Vallamar neighborhod which is right next to Rockaway beach. That is the beach you saw as you ran north just over the hill.
When I ride on the weekends I usually ride Hwy 1 south over Devils Slide. That is the hill out of town and heads toward the most beautiful hills, above and south of, Half Moon Bay. It is not bad going south as it is fairly straight so traffic can see you. But you have to ride steady. There are other ways out by going east then south or go north 15 miles and you are at the GG Brigde and into Marin.
I work in Downtown SF and ride to work 2-3 times a week. It is 45 miles round trip. We have a free gym in the basement so leave all my clothes at work.
My commute is above and along the beaches, then thru the Golden Gate Park, drop down thru the Presidio National Park to Crissey Field where they put on the Alcatraz Tri, ride along the Marina Green and over Fort Mason to Geradelli Square, Fishermans Wharf then along the Embarcadero toward the Bay Bridge, then shoot thru the Financial district and right into the parking garage. About 85-90 minutes and I have never had a bad ride.
Having lived in both San Diego and now the Bay Area I am spoiled. I have no idea where I could move and be happy after living here.
