OT: Hotels in Sydney

hey there you Aussies

I’m heading over with the whanau to do the half marathon in September. We’ve got two nights in the Sheraton on the company, but we need to find somewhere else for two other nights.

Criteria: close to city centre/needs to be clean/** or *** if possible/less than $140 AUS per night/no hostels.

We’ve stayed in the Central Park Hotel on Castlereagh(?) st before, but I thought there might be somewhere else decent we haven’t thought of.

thanks

Patrick

Bueller? Bueller?

This was a while ago, but I stayed at the Holiday Inn right at Kings Cross. The hotel was really nice and set back off the street, so it was quiet. The train station was right out the front door and it was a 5 min ride into the city centre. I have no idea of the cost, however.

I’d stay somewhere at Darling Harbour try this link for some info

Little bit more than you might want to spend, but the York Hotel, 5 York Street has suites…kitchens, washer.dryers, etc. At city end of Sydney Harbour Bridge, great location. I go to Sydney frequently (business…am going in 2 weeks) and always stay there. Rates between AUD 170 & AUD 200 @ night. http://www.theyorkapartments.com.au/index.html You need more info, contact me direct. jmartin@pathlore.com.

not sure if it meets the price criteria, but higher floors on the intercontinental downtown are quite nice and also quiet.

try the Westin in the CBD

reasonably priced - if not - there are a few hotels worth considering in North Sydney - just a five minute train ride over the bridge!!

The Radison in Darling Harbour is a great hotel, stayed their twice. I’m not sure about the rates but it should be close to $140 AUD, great location!

If you can, pick up a copy of the Rough Guide Australia. I stayed in a converted Mansion near Kings Cross that was a short walk to the Opera House and Botanical gardens about 5 years ago. It was a nice place and was cheap.

The Rough Guide Australia has an extensive section on Sydney as well as the various neighborhoods, etc.
