Can any Oahu locals, or those familiar with the scene, tell me approximately how much it costs to rent a Jeep Wrangler per day? How does this compare to a standard four door sedan rate. I’m heading over for two nights at the end of May and wanted to do a bit of sight seeing and figured the Wrangler would set the scene best.
Would not recommend a Jeep for oahu driving. Very urban here which means TRAFFIC. Just get a convertible Mustang. I’m not sure of rates, just do an online search and you’ll get some deals.
Get the Jeep for Maui and head east. I rode a mountain bike around the east side of Maui counterclockwise. Most spectacular ride in the islands that is doable in a jeep. Just do it in the daytime.
I would get neither a jeep wrangler or mustang convertable, or a sedan. You’ll scream Tourist and the open cars are not secure for belongings. Request some sort of SUV depending on which rental company. Hertz used to have Ford Escapes, don’t know which model they’re using this year. You’ll have a much safer environment for your belongings, AC which will be handy if the weather is sticky and you’re caught in traffic, and you’ll look like a resident.
I like the PT cruzer. Not too expensive and can fit a ton of junk. Oahu is small so even a Neon is not that bad of a car to rent as a “circle Island” drive can be done in half a day. Football mom is right that we do have a lot of car breakins, so leave nothing in site when you leave your car. Dumbest thing is to leave the Ipod, cellphone, laptop and wifes purse on the seat while you go beach for 4 hours or so. Have fun G
