I will be heading down to Philadelphia in a couple weeks to pick up my new Elite bike (very psyched indeed) and am going to make a weekend trip out of it…some sight-seeing, check out the Manuyunk Wall, etc. Can anyone recommend a good hotel / B&B in Philadelphia?
If you are going to the Elite lab you want to stay in Center City, which is not really “downtown”. My recommendation would be the Mariott on Rittenhouse Square but if you have the cash the place to stay is the Rittenhouse Hotel.
You may want to stay outside of Philly (West Conshohocken Marriott) – it is right on the Valley Forge trail - which leads to some great biking routes (both on the trail and country roads). On the weekend, you’re only 20 minutes from Elite (which is perfectly found right off of the Schuylkill Expressway (South St. exit).
Sadly, Philadelphia really gets quiet on most weekends.
Four Seasons and the Ritz are both in Center City - wonderful hotels. Sofitel looks cool, but I haven’t been there. If you want to do sight seeing, stay in the city, not in the suburbs.
I stayed at the Rittenhouse last year on business and got a really sweet rate just by asking for their best deal. Very nice hotel. There is a Four Seasons in center city too.
I’ve gotten snowed on at the marriott rittenhouse. Not a bad place to spend a few days. Look at the valley forge area or even some areas in Delaware near Brandywine. years ago i used to do a fair bit of training in that area. Can’t comment on current traffic though.
