(OT) Didn't expect to see that!

I just got back from helping out at the works based charity day and went into the bedroom to change. As I walked in I looked out the window and saw this: http://images.snapfish.com/343<954723232fp3%3B%3Dot>2323%3D9%3B<%3D6%3A7%3D32329%3B<5%3B6%3A37nu0mrj Not quite what I expected! So my tars out there that can tell me what I got outside the window? Frigate?

Payback for the Tea Tax. Bush sent a destroyer, we are invading the UK.

Better learn the Star Spangled Banner.

Think that class might be busy, from what I hear there is a large number that can’t get beyond “Oh, say can you see”. That is if the Superbowl crowd is anything to go by!

And while you are there, Eric. Can we have Virginia back please?

…And while you are there, Eric. Can we have Virginia back please?

No but we will give you Canada back. Oh wait we never did get that one did we.

I think that’s one of the few destroyers of that class that the Argentinians didn’t sink…

God, this threas is getting away from the original point in 3 posts, new record?

I always thought a tax on using our placenames would be lucrative. We could start with New York, Yorktown, New Hampshire, New England, Plymouth etc. But the real money spinner could start with all the Birminghams!

Didn’t lose that battle, let alone the war. Should think it would be good for a Portuguese to get into naal battle arguments with the English, eh?

Portugal and England is the oldest alliance in Europe, yada, yada, yada…

And I do remember a few UK vessels being downed by Exocet missiles… made in France

Muito Bem, but then the French will sell to anyone!

Yes, but at least the french PM doesn’t go to the european parliament to do a standup comedy routine…

Mr Blah (Blah) will go anywhere there is an audience. It’s said he will turn up for the opening of an envelope. I never have and never will vote for that muppet.

Yes, that is a US Navy Frigate.

Hmmm. I don;t recognize the class. Destroyer, medium displacement, bow mounted 40mm auto-cannon. Just aft of the 40 is a VLS system (Vertical launch system) but it is the older version that does not facilitate simultanteous launches. Low bridge. 3 prominent radomes Hanger bay aft of the size to accomodate Seahawk, Seasprite or Wasp if it is a U.K. flag ship. Appears to be activity by personnel near the fantail on the landing deck.

Beautiful ship. Destroyers are the sniper rifles of the litoral combat environment.

I had a good look at it through my binoculars before it turned starboard and headed across the bay. They had the fantail lit up and personnel lined up (maybe for inspection). There is usually a summer visit from the US Navy, some tie in with the marine base across the bay in Poole.

Funny, I looked out the window and Frig it was what came to mind

An Arleigh Burke class destroyer?

http://www.hazegray.org/worldnav/usa/images/ddg77.jpg

Nope, not an Arleigh Burke: Exhaust is different, no radar panels on the bridge.

Could well be, although the four 'stacks(?) on the rear structures seem missing.

TD-

You are incredible. How do you know so much about so many things?? Seriously, I am in awe of your knowledge.

Heck, all I can do is deliver kiddos and take out a few female parts… :-(…

HC

“can tell me what I got outside the window?”

put your wetsuit on, swim out there and ask the guys on the ship yourself
.

Never swim alone in the sea, especially on a rest day!
