The missus and i are thinking about gettin’ hitched down there this winter. Anyone been there, have any thoughts? I must say, everything i’ve seen on the web looks unbelievably nice…
edit - Guess that was before it was wiped off the face of the earth.
Been to Tulum. The water there was an amazing color - not like a Cervelo or anything but then, what is…
We stayed at the Avantura Spa Palace almost an hour south of Cancun and maybe 30 mins north of Tulum in Riviera Maya - all inclusive, adult only, spa oriented resort south of. If you stay at one Palace resort you have privelages at the others as well, eg: snorkling at Xpu-Ha
I’ve been to Akumal several times. My Dad owns 5/52 of a house down there. Great place – relaxed, not too touristy, beautiful unpopulated bay (Half Moon) and cenotes for snorkeling & diving, etc. I don’t know what you’re looking for in a wedding site, though. There are prettier places, or glitzier places, or more secluded places. But Akumal is very nice.
We basically need some dude to mumble whatever needs to be mumbled, and then carry on with drinkin’, swimming, eatin’, and the other thing that newly weds do. Unfortunately, the only package we’ve seen for a wedding is $1000…
Are you not following Wilma? Don’t know how much will be left. Hopefully the area will recover.
Know the area well. Used to scuba dive in the Cozumel/Yucatan area years ago until we discovered Cuba. The diving in the area is magnificent but became over crowded.
Akumal is a very nice area and the Mayan ruins in Tulum are well worth the visit. If the hurricane damage isn’t too excessive then definately go there.
We did our Honeymoon at Xpu Ha and went to Aventura for a day of spa treatments. Nice place, but definitely liked the Xpu Ha…able to get in a run every day, do my swims in an uncrowded pool, cute little cabanas to stay in, snorlkeling, kayaking, boogie boards, and scuba diving for $60 bucks–no certification necessary.
I think it depends on what you’re looking for. For me, a real beach was a must, and the Xpu Ha had a GORGEOUS one (notice the “had” )…and I wanted to be active.
My wife and I went there about 8-9 years ago. The ruins are very interesting and the water is unbelieveable. It is DISNEYLAND water BLUE. It is very clear and the blue looks totally fake, because it is so beautiful and so BLUE!!!
