HELP! I’m getting married in Oct, and my fiancee told me I had to pick out our first dance song. I’m lost! I was thinking of something along the lines of Sinatra, maybe Dean Martin, but any suggestion would be appreciated by me and my future wife…Thanks in advance!
“let’s get it on” Marvin Gaye. that suited us very well.
Burns
don’t forget bobby darin. awesome songs…pratically every genre too.
“With or without you” by U2, or
“I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”, also by U2, both on “Joshua Tree”
Haha, just kidding…seriously, congratulations.
“Have I Told You Lately”, Van Morrison (CD is “Avalon Sunset”).
we went more modern and had “Lover Lay Down” from DMB, then 2nd was Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love”
.
Fight the Power, Public Enemy, guaranteed to be a conversation starter for years to come!
Seriously, screw all the typical “romantic” songs and pick a song that evokes special memories of your wife to be when you hear it. When she asks why you picked “x”, tell her what it makes you think of, and she will melt every time she hears that song from that moment on.
Don’t try to please everybody there, please the only two people who matter on your wedding day, you and your wife!
They Love Each Other - gratful Dead (My wife’s and my song)
Shining Star - The Manhattens (Our second choice)
.
I say something that moves… like “brick house” or “superfreak.” and you can’t go wrong with a classic like “hava nagila.”
We danced to the song “Advent” by the band Jackopierce. Unfortunately they are now defunct.
Other great songs are “Forever” by Ben Harper, “True Companion” by Marc Cohn.
fellow Dead Head? me too
she can make happy any man alive. sunshine daydream…
Blue Rodeo - Lost Together
.
cowboy junkies, “anniversary song”
.
<< “True Companion” by Marc Cohn >> Hey - that was ours!
The only problem w/a more obscure song like that, is that you don’t often get to hear it. So, if you are the kinda person who likes to hear “our song” a bit more regularly, you might wanna pick something a bit more mainstream.
'It Had to Be You" - done by various artists: Sinatra, Harry Connick, etc.
“Wonderful Tonight” - Clapton
“Love Song” - The Cure
“Crazy Love” - Van the Man, or Aaron Neville’s cover
Great songs that aren’t quite right are “One” by U2, and “If I Could Change The World” by Clapton/Babyface. Both have a great vibe, but if you actually listen to the words, they aren’t as lovey dovey as one would like for yer wedding song. We had both played at our wedding, since both are faves, but not as “our song”.
PS - we did “Someone To Watch Over Me” as the bride/father song, and “What a Wonderful World” as the groom/mother song. I think either of those would also work as a wedding song.
PPS - some underrated hard-rock dance tunes for ya: Shook Me All Night Long, Living After Midnight, Rock and Roll all Night (and Party Every Day)
This Magic Moment – by the Drifters – good slow dance song.
This magic moment
So different and so new
Was like any other
Until I kissed you
And then it happened
It took me by surprise
I knew that you felt it too
By the look in your eyes
Sweeter than wine (sweeter than wine)
Softer than a summer night (softer than a summer night)
Everything I wanna have (everything, everything)
Whenever I hold you tight
This magic moment (this magic moment)
While your lips are close to mine
Will last forever
Forever till the end of time
Sweeter than wine (sweeter than wine)
Softer than a summer night (softer than a summer night)
Everything I wanna have
Whenever I hold you tight
This magic moment
While your lips are close to mine
Will last forever
Forever till the end of time
“Forever I do” Lou Rawls (it’s an import)
Worked for us.
Let it come naturally, keep your ears open, especially when you are with her. Just picking any song won’t have as much meaning. About six months before my wedding my wife and I talked about how we had no song that was “ours.” We had been a few hundred miles apart for a couple of years so “Haven’t Seen For A While” by the Pat McGee Band was our song, but now we were living together and it didn’t seem right. One night we went to see “Love Actually” and in one seen “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys came on and in my mind it clicked. The message was right and it was doing something together. After the movie my wife asked about the song because she liked it, so I busted out “Pet Sounds” (one of the albums/cds that everyone should own) and played it and it clicked. It was absolutely perfect. Let it just come to you and it will.
“Wonderful Tonight” - Clapton
LOL…people always say this song but probably haven’t read the lyrics. It’s about his wife taking is drunk ass home. How romantic.
We’re using “Forever and for always” by Shania Twain at our wedding next year. This is actually “our” song though.
“The Best is Yet To Come” Tony Bennett
.
Karma - great song - it was not our first song but played at our wedding.
