Does anyone know of an ortho surgeon in Austin? I have a friend who has some rotator cuff problems and has lost her range of motion and her doctor is recommending surgery.
I’ve seen Dr Windler at Austin Sports Medicine (Next to Central Market off N. Lamar) for a shoulder that has given me pain every day since having shoulder surgery in 99. Typical of most doctors, he prescribed a pain killer and anti inflamatory and said I have ‘arthritis’. He’s probably a capable surgeon though as he’s serviced the UT sports teams for a number of years. I went to him because I figure that if you are the surgeon for one of the worlds best swim teams, you must know shoulders.
I’m now seeing Dr. Albrecht of Southwest Orthopedic Group (off of Bee Caves). I went to him for a new low back problem, but he’s looking at my shoulder as well. He did back surgery on a friend of mine a few months ago and he seems pretty happy. I’m not sure of his experience with shoulders but he seems interested in helping me resolve the shoulder problem. I’m going in for MRI’s on both shortly.
You could also call Dr. Spears at Sports Performance International and ask him for a referral. He’s always my goto guy when it comes to sports injuries. Mainly because he’s so involved in the local triathlon community. They set me up with a cortisone shot in the knee before Ironman last year. They mainly do running injuries there, knees, ankles, shin splints, etc, but maybe they have a shoulder person there as well.
