$350 worth of stuff, and I had to pay the post office $55 to get my stuff. What a stinking ripoff! I got such good prices that it was still worth it, though.
Here’s where it might hurt- I just bought some $940 flashpoint wheels from them this AM. Will I still get hit by customs, since the wheels are made here? How are customs figured- is it by dollar amount of the item? If so, I may have to cancel my order…
If they were made in the USA, it should not matter where they were shipped from. I am actually surprised that you got dinged on the other order, because I dont think that it was high enough to trigger a duty, but I’m not sure…
I have ordered tubular tires from them on at least 4 occasions over the past 2 years. Probably 10 Vittoria Corsa’s each time. Not only was the price around $45 a tire (half of what the LBS charges) but the postman brought them into my office rather than put them in the mailbox and there was NEVER a duty charge.
How are their prices so low? I got a set of Attack/Force Contis and a Conti GP4000 shipped to the USA for 115. MY LBS wants 129.99 for the Attack/Force set and 59.95 for the GP4000!
I have already removed the decals, they’re clear stickers and they came off quick easy and no residue…I’m very happy.
The prices are ridiculous, if you get on their mailing list you get even better deals emailed, I bought a set of PR3s a few months back for $27 a piece which is roughly $50 cheaper PER tire than my LBS. Insane.

The tires are made in Europe, so EU countries don’t pay duties. They ship them to retailers in the USA, however, and the USA retailers pass on the duties and freight costs to you, the consumer.
I have been ordering Mich PR tires from PBK for a few years now. All positive experiences thus far.
That is probably just GST. If it was shipped by UPS there might be a “brokerage fee”.
PK ships by Royal Mail, which then comes to Canada by Canada Post, so no brokerage fees. I’ve ordered a several times from them and only been hit once with duty on my tires. I have no idea how Customs decides what shipments gets charged and what ones don’t. Maybe like going through the border, they only stop vehicles randomly. All I know is when I get the package with no duty fees, I use some of that money to buy a lottery ticket.
Same here.
Once I had to pay Canada custom handling fee of $5 + taxes. Other time no charge directly to my house.
Luckily the most expansive of the two packages came directly to me house so I have no idea how they select what goes through and what results sales taxes.
Fred.
Also it depends on whether Customs decides to inspect the package. If they just let it pass through, there will be no customs charge or GST or PST (these days it’s HST).
I’ve order 3-4 times from PBK, and just got hit with a customs charge. PBK labels as cycling accessories, on my package the tariff code indicates that the customs office charged tariff based on the package being clothing (which has a tariff). The order contained tires and tubes (no tariffs on either). I’m contesting the charge (pictures invoice etc) and should get the money back (although not the post office fee of like 5.85).
