Ok im getting ready to order my rear wheel cover from wheelbuilder.com. Im on the fence as to if I need to pay the extra 25 for a custom cut cover or if I am fine with the standard cover. I measured my rim depth and its 18.5mm. Does anyone know if I need to pay the extra money to get it cut or should the stock size be fine? Thanks
Order custom cut. If the stock size matches exactly & doesn’t need adjustment for your spoke count or rim type, he will tell you as much. If it needs any trimming whatsoever, it’s worth paying for.
Thanks thats exactly what I wanted to know. Im gonna have a disc sooon!!!
The stock cover is designed for a box rim so even 18mm will need trimming. Pay them to do it as they do a professional job. I trimmed my own for a Hed Jet 60 one time. Didn’t look as nice as they can do.
Someone told me recently that a wheel cover on a stock training wheel will be similar in performance to a Zipp 404, which in my mind is in the same class as a Jet 60.
So, my question is this: How much of a benefit would you estimate you got by putting a wheel cover on the HED Jet 60?
“Someone told me recently that a wheel cover on a stock training wheel will be similar in performance to a Zipp 404”
Actually a disc is a disc whether it’s a disc cover or a disc wheel. Both have about the same performance.
I would email Rich at wheelbuilder with the wheel manufactuer and measurements. He will know if you need a custom or not. If in doubt, I would go with custom. I live about 10 minutes from his shop so I brought my wheel in too. He did a great cover for my neuvations wheel. Fit perfectly.
