I have lost so much weight in preparation for IM LP my wetsuit is now leaking like the Titanic.
I see this pricey Orca PFlex, but am confused about how it could be much better than the Predator 2. Is it supposed to be everyman’s suit, or is it for faster swimmers? Am I missing something?
I’d be interested in knowing other’s views on the product.
one more thing…if the wetsuit is the right size, I will send it to you, you try it, you like it, you keep it, otherwise, you send it back and I send the money back…
wetsuit fitting/liking is very individual…
If you have a long upper body you might want to look at something else. The P-flex tends to fit people with short upper body. If you have a longer upper body then the neck line really pulls down giving you that choking feeling the whole time and it also gives you a massive wedgie.
I would look at the Desoto T1. It’s a great fit especially if you lost alot of weight because if lost weight in some area and gain muscle in other it will be hard to find the one suit that fits your new frame. The T1 allows for you to somewhat custom fit the suit to your upper and lower body.
Orca was too tight and too short for me, even one size too big. It ate my neck up. The TI is the best fit for me as you can size the pant and shirt seperately.
I have a P-FLex and a Predator2… They are both size 6.5, the P-Flex is a much tighter fit when out of the water, almost uncomfortably tight but as soon as I get in the water I can’t tell the difference when swimming with either one, my girlfriend prefers when I wear the P-Flex because she can se me the entire swim, the red shoulders are pretty distinct, I’m one of the few people around here with one, that would be different of course if you were swimming with a bunch of people with P-Flex’s.
First off, it is the warmest suit I have ever worn. That was a big advantage as the water was colder than Alcatraz.
It swam very, very well and fit perfectly. Incredibly bouyant, and as I said, nice and warm. Perhaps the warmest…
That said, the suit was a little stiffish in the torso and legs compared to the other premium one piece suits like QR Superfull, which I raced in for a year, and the Aquaman Metal Cell, which I raced in a few times last year and will use this year if I ever recover from this sinus infection.
Desoto makes very good stuff. He’s right on top of the market as far as I’m concerned. I think my main fear about the T1 is getting it off. At my age, I’m not as flexible as I once was so I worry I might end up spending ten minutes getting it off. I know how to get off the traditional wetsuit and can do it pretty quickly.
Is this an irrational worry? (That would be my first one, so treat it kindly.)
No problems here. Top has a zipper and pulls off like a sweatshirt. Bottom is just like any other once you master the step out move. I got the nicer top and the lesser quality bottom and it works fine.
What size are you? I’ve been thinking of getting the size 7. I’m 6’0", 162 lbs, which is probably going to be close to my race weight in 5 weeks.
Thanks,
Robert
6’2" 170± on gameday. I would definitely try b4 buying. I started out with a 7 and settled on a 6.5. Ok here is my .02. I went swimming in both suits. The Predator 2 felt really snug around the neck when compared to the P-flex. Both suits are warm. The P-Flex is supposed to be more buoyant than the P2 but I think my legs were higher in the water in the P2. If you look at both suits (2004) the rubber that is used in the legs of the P2 is a bit thicker than the P-Flex and goes further down so maybe that explains it. The P-flex is definitely more comfortable in the water, arm reach, legs, back, etc. It was also slightly easier to take off because of the more flexible rubber. The P2 kinda does a little of the work for you as far as reach is concerned. I picked the P-Flex because it was less restrictive and thinking it would be more buoyant (hype) than the P2 but it really wasn’t. Honestly it really doesn’t matter, both will float you. The main differences are the way the suits are cut and the placement of flexible rubber in the P-Flex, back, shoulders… They are both high-end suits. Is it worth another 200 bucks for the P-Flex is for you to decide.
I just got a Pflex two weekends ago. I am just under 6’ and 168 lbs, and I initially got the size 7. In the store it felt fine, maybe just a touch tight in the chest area, where I am a bit thick. Anyway, I swam with it this past weekend and found a significant amount of water pooling in the arms and legs. So today I went back and exchanged it for a 6.5. Now the chest is really tight, but not restricting. THe important thing is that the arms and legs were now very sung. Now I just need to get in another swim before my Sun race.
That’s a big help. I’m also a bit thick-chested, though down to a 42 at 159 lbs this a.m. I want a tight seal. I see another poster even bigger than me went with the 6.5, so I’m thinking that makes sense.
I’m also now looking at the QR Superfull because I see it got rave reviews from almost everyone. Mixed reviews for the Desoto suit, which surprises me 'cause their stuff is so good.
Anyway, thanks a lot. You guys are a wonderful resource.
