Just finished oceanside and it was hard !!
Was wondering if someone could compare it to Orangeman?
Even the ocranside run was hard with the one block hills. I was expecting pancake flat
Should I expect a faster time of a slower time ?

Most likely slower. Orangeman has a soft sand run and if it’s the same weather as last year expect it to be ridiculously hot.
I’ve done both. The Orangeman bike is tougher as it doesn’t really have the flats that Oceanside does. Not that Oceanside is flat, but it does have a few stretches of flat stuff. Orangeman is basically all uphill and then you turn around and ride back down. I don’t recall any part of the Orangeman course being as steep though as the worst hill at Oceanside.
For the run, at Orangeman there is a LOT of sand running in the beginning/end. It was near torture. Outside of the sand part it is basically flat but you basically run the same 1.5-ish mile stretch along the road out and back over and over again to get in the miles You also have to cross the train tracks and if you have bad timing, like I do, you will have to stop to wait for a train to go by before continuing on.
So, I’ll say Orangeman is harder/slower, though not by a drastic margin.
I did Orangeman 2012 in 6:30 ish. Swim was a little long (per Garmin), bike is very cool but you have to like long climbs, run was (1) insanely hot (2) boring loops on a bike path and (3) lots of sand. I ended up walking a ton. Great volunteers on the run course and a nice low key race
I just did oceanside, 5:18, and it was much easier (but lost more weight, better weather etc) Orangeman was also an end of the season have fun race, so I didn’t train for it like I did for this year’s oceanside
The run course has changed the last two years. The first year it was a hilly 14mile run and then last year it was a flat 3 lap out and back with a bunch of fun running in the sand at the beginning and end. Who knows if they’ll change the run again for this year. Maybe this year they’ll have a lot of sand and throw in some hills!
I did both in 2012 (and oceanside in 2011).
Orangeman bike is tougher/slower. I rode 2:30 at Oceanside and 2:45 at Orangeman. However, I was in better shape for Oceanside. I think in similar shape, I could have gone about 2:40.
Both runs are similar in difficulty. Orangeman has heat, sand and boredom. Oceanside is hillier and way more crowded. I ran about 12 minutes faster at Oceanside. But again - better condition. I think I would have gone 6 or so mins faster at Orangeman in similar conditioning.
Swim was calmer and warmer at Orangeman. Some say it was longer, but my times were pretty close at both. Slightly slower at Orangeman, but I was coming of 6 weeks of swimming after a broken shoulder.
As others have stated, the keep changing the course at Orangeman so who knows if it will be the same next year.
That said, Orangeman is clearly a harder race. Last year I think only 3 people went sub-5 at Orangeman, how many went sub5 at O-Side?
Obviously there is a much bigger field at O-Side, but the differences in finishing times between the races are not as subtle as the previous posts seem to imply.
I’ve done both Orangemans and O’side 6 or 7 times. As others have said, it’s a slower course due to nearly non-stop climbing on the first half of the bike which translates to downhill on the second half (rollers the last 10 miles or so, but generally downhill.
Run is slower due to the sand everyone’s mentioned.
