ok the ad is funny enough that I did go check out their website. Didn’t order optygen but did order the bars and shot flask…
I will have to go read about rhodiola and oxygen consumption - I have always thought of it as an herb for anxiety…
why would you give money to a dirtbag company that is selling snake oil?

still looking for nutrition options - tired of Gu…
“Dirtbag?” What have they done?
Seriously though. The stuff was tested on the cross country team here at my college. It did do what it’s advertised to do, although not quite to the extend they advertised.
I have been taking it since Feb and I can say I never run faster in my life. Before taking it I was around a 7:30-40 min mile. Since, 7:20 and it is pretty consistent
Ok so a 20 sec improvement, have you lost weight? Put in more miles training, tend to get those kinds of gains with just conditioning…

As an “herb guy,” I don’t quite get the mix of ingredients in this product. I think it is more of a marketing gimmick as opposed to a solution. (Others must have that impression, hence the “dirtbag comment” above). But the Rhodiola makes sense, it really does. I’ve been adding R. Rosea to my daily mix of vits/herbs and I’ve got to tell you, it’s made an impact. Rhodiola isn’t a stimulant – and yes, it does reduce anxiety. The reason I like it is that it goes directly to my brain. It helps me to focus – there are a dozen scientific clinical trials on the herb to prove that point. So, with more “mental energy” it helps me put one foot in front of the other with less distraction and more focus on completing/winning. I’m much more positive of my success when taking the Verde Botanica – and when I feel more expectant of success, it generally follows. I’ve tried many brands, some work, some don’t. Just don’t (whatever you do) buy the lowest priced Rhodiola on the shelf. Stick with Siberian Rhodiola. I like Verde Botanica and MIND BODY & SPIRIT.

why would you give money to a dirtbag company that is selling snake oil
That dirtbag company sponsors a few of the more well know pros on this board. I am not into pills so I haven’t tried the Optygen, but their gels and carbohydrate drink mixes are great.
yeah, I am an integrative medicine doc and consult to the supplement industry (hence the sponsors). I get pretty high end stuff. Use rhodiola on patients a ton.
For focus I am using amino acids - theanine and citicoline. I trust the raw ingredient manufacturers (pharmaceutical grade) and find that amino acids, fatty acids etc are more reliable than herbs as a general rule. I also tend to use herbs in a pulse fashion.
what struck me was that on their website they CLAIM that rhodiola helps with oxygen use NOT focus…so will have to do my own lit search, but have been busy training and volunteering at a race.
WOW,
Wow,
wow,
easy there cowboy!
You telling me you “use Rhodiola on patients a ton” and then tell me “will have to do my own lit search on how rhodiola works”. The you go on and state that you believe that “raw ingredients are more reliable than herbs as a general rule”.
First off: There are no such general rules in pharmacology. Just take your Rhodiola: It has “some effect” ONLY as a herb, but not as single ingredients. Nobody knows why. Although it has worrysome side-effects on a variety of cell-physiological processes that could very well spell trouble for certain organs/tissues (as told by people who actually do research on rhodiola pharmacology).
So either you are just trying to confuse us, or you seem to be very confused yourself.
Back on Topic:
I think the add depicting the guy who showed off his jewels to ASTANA is priceless.
Maybe a hidden message that it helps this kind of performance too?
no, I said I would have to look up rhodiola and oxygen consumption as claimed on the optygen website - that is not a use it is known for. It is an adaptogen that has calming properties and has been well used and written about for anxiety - its action has been shown to normalize serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine levels.
No where do I say that I did not know its action, just with regards to OXYGEN consumption.
perhaps you either need glasses or need to work on your reading comprehension skills before you jump down my throat.
so who is confused ‘cowboy’ ?
eta: oh and I said there were raw ingredient manufacturers I trust with regards to AMINO ACIDS - and yes they are pharmaceutical grade. what that means, since you are confused, is that I do not deal with end product makers but the ones who supply the raw ingredients - ie Suntheanine and Lycored. They sell to GNC, Enzymatic Therapies and hundreds if not thousands of end product manufacturers. clearly this is not an industry you are familiar with.
Ok so a 20 sec improvement, have you lost weight? Put in more miles training, tend to get those kinds of gains with just conditioning…
No, whats messed up, I actually gained about 5lbs from last year … all muscle of course I started riding a lot more so I am not sure if that helps my run or not but it added to my muscle gain
Wow, talk about being defensive.
You are confusing me, seriously!
Could you please explain to me how Aa “Focus”?
MAybe that would have helped, since I have been told that my reading comprehension skills are quite fine (in fact, reviewing scientific claims is actually part of my job), and I am always willing to hear about new claims, as outlandish as they first may appear.
My social skills seem to be o.k. too, since I know it is not nice picking on people who need to wear correctional lenses.
You treat all your “patients” like that?
I also got that you aspire to ‘consult’ supplement manufacturers. Nothing I would like to be associated with. But everybody has to make a living, I guess.
Where did you say your degree was from?
I did not say rhodiola helped with focus, I said that theanine did - and there is a plethora of data on that. Again your masterful skills are showing again - is that how you review data too?
This is an internet forum, you are not a patient. ergo not relevant
and I do not aspire to consult, I already do.
my degree - MD - yale, undergrad - brown
why don’t you both take some rhodiola
.
oh so you caught one error -
Theanine’s function is to increase alpha wave production at rest and suppress it on attentional activities - how many papers would you like? give me your email I will send you them.
