Opinions on this 36-week Ironman plan?

Came across this the other day …

http://www.trinewbies.com/tno_oldsite/Ironman/2Ironman36TP.htm

Was curious about opinions by those with more experience than I (i.e., everyone). =)

You doing Ironman’s now? I think you should focus on Oly’s so I can beat you at Chicago next year

36 weeks is a long time. It would be jan 1 to labor day weekend. It could be hard to stay focused for that long w/out burning out. Maybe normal training getting fit, then a 12-16 specific build for the IM.

You doing Ironman’s now?

At least one. After discussing w/ my wife that number of weekends I could “go race” (and I use the term ‘race’ very loosely in describing my pace) … it was decided I had 2-3 weekends to go. I’ll do a 1/2 and a full. The other “possible racing weekend”, I’m going with my dad to Montana. We’re gonna fish and ride horses.

Really I just wanna take on the “140.6”. It really is as simple as that. No waiting “till I’m ready” (where’s the challenge in that?), just sign up, trasin, and do it. Evaluation time.

I’ll make ya a deal though. I’ll go watch next years Chicago race and hold up a sign of inspiration for ya (no, not that sign, I mean a real one, heh heh). After the race, I’ll buy YOU a steak and a beverage.

Edited b/c I guess tables don’t C&P very well =)

*** I’m not posting the run, it’s for someone that is doing marathons also as part of the IM prep. My training runs won’t have as many 20+ mile runs as they have listed. nowhere close.

Actually, I was more curious about the riding times and running distances. It would give me one century ride (for me). I am planning a peak in june for a 1/2 and the full is end of Sept, so I would not use the plan verbatim … but as a neophyte tri-dude, I need some type of guide as to how to plan a year that includes weekly sessions. The Training Bible is useful, but not that useful (IMO).

As for “burning out”. IMO, it won’t be the training that burns me out (I’m going to train regularly for the next year anyway), it will be the ocnstantly thinking/talking about triahtlon. Whenever I get my schedule set and just go “enjoy training”, I rock. Whenever I over-think everything my training is very sporatic and inconsistent. So, I am trying to get a plan down so I just look at what I need to do and then go do it. I do very well with a military style of schedule, do this, do this, do this. If I do the ebb and flow thing, I get too much ebb (or is it flow?).

Man, that’s the best deal I ever heard.

Which IM are you going to train for?

Good luck tripple!!!

I also focus on one IM and one Half a year. In the start of the race season I also do one sprint/oly just as brick training. It seems like you are balancing your training, racing and life very well. That weekend with your father is IMO more important than any race.
