Opinions on reasonable prices for used wired Powertaps

I’ve been looking for a Powertap for a bit, both here and on eBay and learned more about the Powertap line of older and newer hubs. As such, I would like others’ observations about what some of these models are worth. Plus if others are looking for a powertap they might not know a couple of things that affect value.

My observations–I used the Excel Sports $680 new complete set-up as my baseline for wired models and kind of went from there.

Used but relatively new wired powertaps with new hub style–Value between $400-500 with a standard type rim. Based off the devaluation of new vs. used and the fact that the warranty, as far as I know, won’t transfer to a second owner.

Older–sometimes called ‘bolt on’ hubs–$350 or less. Saris does not keep repair parts for these and you can’t trade them in unless you are the original owner. I would only pay $350 if I knew the owner and he was my friend. Buying these hubs is basically rolling the dice in terms of what you get since when it dies, you are done.

Is this in line with what others are finding or am I just trying to pay less? Or are others paying too much out of ignorance?

Opinions welcome.

sounds about right.

and for 200 bucks between new and used, I would get new for the warrenty. Saris always took care of me when I had my 2 PT’s.

I am not the first owner of my yellow hub PTPro (2gen powertap), but Saris was very happy to give me a trade-in… (arriving this week as a matter of fact)

they don’t service them anymore, but YMMV on getting a trade-in… they never even asked me if I was the first owner or anything like that.

How much did they charge for an upgrade?

it worked out to +/- 50% off any new hub.
they will also build it into a wheel if you want, but I think the only rim option is a Mavic OP?

anyway, that’s the story - it worked out great for me.
