…and some of the aces got drubbed:
Sabathia: 12.46 ERA
Lannan: 18.00 ERA
Lee: 12.60 ERA
Webb: 13.50 ERA
Peavey: 2 runs in the first inning already
Oswalt: 2 runs in the first two innings
Verlander: 54.00 ERA in the first inning
And that Johan Santana guy: 1.59 ERA
(not to mention 10 outs of no-hit relief)
Yeah, it’s awfully early. But that’s what the beginning of the season is all about: Hope.
They’re brushing the snow off the mound in Chicago. Now that’s some real Spring ball.
…what I reall miss is the actual “opening day” – you know, where the Reds had the first pitch and all of the other games followed…Sunday night baseball is great for the rest of the season, but opening day really does belong in Cinci (and these are the words of a loooong suffering Cubs fan!)

.
Let me be the first to remind you, there are still 161 games left…
Go Cubs
One of the things I love about this week is the free MLB Extra Innings package. I’ll surf through teams that I normally don’t get to see on a regular basis and caught the Pirates score four runs with two outs in the ninth to come back and beat St Louis, also listened to a timeless Vin Scully for a few innings of what looked like a beautiful night for baseball in San Diego. Nice to see box scores in the sports section again this morning.
The Mets are on top of the division which means after day 1 we’ve got you right where we want you.
