Open Water Swimming in VA

Just looking for some locations on good places for long distance open water swimming in Virginia. The closer to Richmond the better, but I dont mind the drive. Thanks for the help.

I live in Richmond. If you haven’t joined the Richmond Tri Club (http://www.richmondtriclub.com/) it’s a great idea. the RTC will have group open water swims on friday afternoons in the James with kayakers, and a boat to patrol the swimmers in case you need a break or something.

near belle isle, there are a couple of spots you can swim in, the most notable being the Xterra swim course which is right next to Browns Island. if the river is low, you gonna want to watch out for some high rocks, but other than that, it’s fine.

Endorphin Fitness (www.endorphinfitness.com), a local coaching service, will have group open water swims at 6:30 on fridays at Salisbury lake, a large lake situated in the middle of a suburb.

other than the options above, your best bet might be to hook up with some people training for the same race, and swim with them.

hope this helps.

Dude, before you do any OWS in Virginia, read this article. Apparently Virginians like to swim with poop!

Every monday & wednesday evening a good sized group leaves from Final Kick Sports for swims in the bay, if you fancy some company to swim with you should come down sometime, great group of people, Im sure you can find these workouts posted on the website

www.finalkick.com
.

Thanks everyone for your help… and for the poop warning
