Has anyone tried out any oomph clothing at all? Is there anything to the “compression pads” or is this just another gimmick?

I have the shorts on back order. I do own three of their tri tops and they are excellent. Comfortable, durable, good fit, priced right, nice pockets in the back, good zipper quality, great colors, and, ahem, my wife thinks I look good in them.
Oh yeah, good customer service too.
Tripoet says it pretty well … i also add: I have a few athletes (men and women) that like wearing the shorts with the distance pad better than most of their expensive bike shorts. (they are wearing the distance short) They have 3 shorts with the distance pad; distance short, lava short, and kilauea. The rest of my crew are very pleased with our team gear etc.
TnT:
I would highly recommend Oomph gear. I have the regular distance shorts & the pad is awesome. I also have the new lava shorts (they do have some nice compression). The tops are well designed & the fabrics are well selected. I have worn almost all the brands, but most often the Pearl Izumi gear. My plan from now on is to stick with Oomph (note: I have no affiliation w/ Oomph other than liking & buying their gear).

Great shorts - I have the Kialeanu (Spelling??) compression shorts.
If anyone is interested in an XL - fits like a Large - never worn and still with tags - please let me know - I have one pair and will let them go at a great price - I can ship to you within a day and you will not be waiting for who know’s how long!!!
I’ve just bought one of their ‘classic singlets’ and was wondering whether anyone has swam in it in a race and has any comments.
Do the pockets simply act as drag?

ANY singlet is just going to act as a drag-suit in the water (in a non-wetsuit swim).
Oomph makes great clothing. Very good quality materials, design and manufacture.
I find this years gear fits quite tight.
Email Oomph. Chris is pretty responsive to any questions.
TnT… The shorts aren’t ‘gimmicky’ at all. The Compression Lycra is actually a heavier weight, providing more compression than a regular 5 or 6 oz. material. We only put the compression panels where you need them so the short is still great for running (our goal as a tri-specific company). Loads of athletes wore them at IMNZ, Ralph’s, AZ and Disney and had amazing feedback… We can’t actually keep the darn things in stock, so I would say we’re doing something right. Feel free to email me if you need more info.
Cheers.

the shorts are awesome, I’m talking about the high end compression shorts with the super high price tag of course. What I noticed most was how they offered great compression but complete, and I mean scary complete range of motion at the hip. It was tight around your leg muscles but didn’t bind at all when lifting your knee. the fabric does sometimes make a pretty funny scratchy noise as it rubs against itself on the interior of your thighs. talked to Chris at Oomph about it as anything weird on a short that cost $95 is not expected. he said they knew about it and it was basically a result of the fabric weave direction and the better foam they are now using in the pad amplifying the sound. So they could switch the fabric oriention which would get rid of the sound but mess up the range of motion, they could go with the older not as great pad, OR they could say screw the noise and lets make a short that performs! Gotta love it when manufacturers put persormance first:) Great line of clothes and if you like colors, they’ve got lots of nice colors. BTW I am in no way at all affiliated with Oomph and am actually kind of commited to another brand but the Oomph stuff is still awesome.
I purchased a pair of the long compression shorts at IMAZ on Thursday before the race after talking with Chris. (my planned race shorts never arrived in the size I ordered from someone else). Overall these are excellent shorts. The pad is, without question, the best I’ve used. They provided great support and were very comfortable. I highly recommend the Oomph compression shorts.
highly recommend oomph!! chris is very helpful (talked to him on the phone) and they have great customer service. I wanted a pair of tri shorts that had a longer inseam than the usual suspects, so i asked chris about it and he told me they offered a “longer inseam” distance short (not on the websire at the time). those things are great!! good luck.
