Went out for my weekly long ride today and bonked about 85mi in. This seems to be a trend. Granted it is 90 degrees right now and humid, but come on. I really need to get my nutrition under control. Anyone know of any good online sports nurtitionalists to consult with.
I don’t believe there is such a thing as a nutritionalist.
I have heard of both nutritionists and dietitians. Dietitians are required to have credentials while nutritionists do not. I would look for a registered dietitian who focuses on sports nutrition.
What’s a “nutionalist”?
Obviously his brain is being impacted.

Why’d you change your screenname???
whereas DIA and AUS and TUL all worked… boco… isn’t exactly the best way to tell where I am. So ferget where I am and I’ll just put the nickname down. You can thank Mr. Terwey, Mr T-slab, Timmy-T for the name.
I think it got started at Vineman in '04
What… is there something wrong with the new name???
Hope all is well. ![]()
Can I just call you ‘Dupree?’ ![]()

My wife is the nutrition coach, I think she does a pretty good job. It’s sometimes a challenge working with someone over the internet, but she works with Heather Golnick, who lives in Florida ( office in CA) and it’s worked well for her over the past two seasons.
Ask for Norma.

**HEY!!! you come to Boulder… I gots a nice place with FINE hard wood floors. Wish I owned it.
But yes jobless… but probably for not much longer. Convictions have been solidified and the future is here. On my way. Shit… now I gots to execute. ** - rides a bike everywhere
I’ll have you know that I have bought gas but twice in the past two months. But that’s more because everything I do drive to (okay give me the guilt trip here) is only at max 5 miles away. I like my new car.
- needs a haircut
Getting there but it still looks quite respectable.
- yet still loveable
Awwww tanky you!
BTW… saw miles and Ella tonight. Only had my cell phone camera and thought that it would not do justice. They were VERY cute tho.

What is your current nutrition routine during your long rides? If you’re simply not eating and drinking enough, you may not need to consult a specialist just to have them tell you “eat and drink more”. My routine is to have 1 bar at the end of each hour, and if I’m hungry between bars, I’ll also take a gel at the 30 minute mark. One bottle of water or sports drink per hour should be considered a bare minimum - when it’s hot like you described in your post, you will more likely need at least 1.5 - 2 bottles per hour. I carry a camelbak (with a 3 liter tank) plus two bottles on my long rides. That liquid, plus the bars and gels routine I described above, will get me through about 100 miles without bonking or having to stop. If you need to go longer, just find somewhere to refill your bottles.
Good luck!
On this praticular ride I consumed a power gel every 40min and a power bar every 1.5hrs. Also I had 2 bike bottles of gatoraide (240cal) and 1 Red Bull (160cal) and about 1.5gal of water. This was a decent ride with about 6000ft of climbing in all. I am 190lb and am a pretty good rider for the most part. Training rides avg about 20mph w/ hr 145-150 range. Am I just not consuming enough calories?
Hey Paul,
I know the problem…dude…I think your scale may peg out at 190 and when it stopped there you just did the calcs for nutrition. Get a scale that goes past 190-you’ll be all set!
