One Piece or two piece? (1)

Hi there,

I am a relative newcomer to this sport and am seeking advice from the more experienced. As a Clyde > 40yrs, I have competed in several triathlons, mostly long-distance (1/2 Irons and ITU long distance) in a one piece tri suit. However, it seems to me that there would be advantages to wearing a two piece outfit (shorts with a tri top) …primarily faster pit-stops during restroom breaks! Are there any overwhelming advantages to wearing a one piece tri-suit?

While we are on the subject, is there a great difference between “tri shorts” and regular “cycling shorts” ?

Thanks.

You said it yourself…“primarily faster pit-stops during restroom breaks!”

There is more padding in cycling shorts than tri shorts. If you swim in cycling shorts it will be a little soggy “down there” longer than it would be with tri shorts.

Thanks, so it does make sense to go two piece.

What importance does the shorts’ leg length have?

The longer the short the more muscle compression there is and the less fatigue there is. That’s at least what I heard. I really don’t get too much into that part of it. But I will tell you that if you’re a guy and you’re wearing short shots you look like a total tool.
