If you purchase a one-day license for a USA Triathlon race, are you considered a member of USA Triathlon for that day?
The reason I ask is that I did just this for a recent duathlon, and I’m now told that my result for that race will not count toward a regional ranking, even if/when I purchase an annual membership.
If so, this rather bites. I have to do 5 races to be eligible for the overall, and there aren’t five more that are anywhere close to me, or that don’t conflict with triathlons that day.
Whine, whine, whine.
Ken,
Its harsh, but live and learn. Not meant to be mean.
In cycling one can purchase a one day USCF license to compete. However, at least in my state, you are not allowed to compete for prizes or medals in state championships on a one day license. You are permitted to compete in the race or time trial, you just won’t be awarded medals or prizes if you place. Many learn this lesson the hard way. Especially when one exceeds the performance of one who medals.
But those are the rules. Who takes the time to read the rules completely and to understand them? The USCF rulebook is only about 127 pages long!
The USA Triathlon rule book is probably very similar in length. They wouldn’t want to take a back seat to the USCF in that regard would they?
Yes, that’s all well and good, but do you actually know the answer to my question? In fact, USA Triathlon tells me that once I get my annual license, my previous race will count towards national ranking; whether it will count towards regional “depends on the region”.
Ken,
I am no authority on and have no experience with USA Triathlon. I was just sharing that USCF rules treat cyclists on one day licenses similarly.
I’m sorry I couldn’t answer your question definitively.
you should only havee to do up to 3 more du’s to get a regional and/or national ranking. i’ve never heard of a region requiring 5 races. USAT only requires 3.
Ah, this is for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Duathlon series, not a regional ranking; Quite the different things, I reckon:
- You must finish 3 races to be eligible for awards.
- Your best 5 scores will be counted. If you finish more than 5 races your lowest scores will be dropped.
I believe you are correct about needing three races for a regional/national ranking.
