For all of you with the low resting HR’s: was your HR always that low (ie when you were my age)?

  1. 60

  2. 210

  3. 165 (I think, this is the average from all the formulas)

  4. 190

  5. Don’t know yet (will know in a few weeks0

  6. Never done one

  7. (for half) 1:08

  8. 15

  1. What’s your resting HR?

Upon waking, it’s between 60 and 66 … I think?

  1. What’s your max HR?

Calculated 190. Once when running sprint after sprint after sprint (ridiculous) with a buddy traning for pararescue I saw it hit 192. Then the HRM hit zero and I fell asleep for about 15 minutes (j/k)

  1. AT HR?

Huh?

  1. LT HR?

What?

  1. Vo2max if you know it

Mine’s more like a Vo2min.

  1. PB Ironman

Less than 2 days.

  1. PB Olympic

We’ll find out. Let’s hope less than 3 hours.

  1. Age

As I’ve said before … 30 … going on 13.

Freestyle, I think I’m right in saying you are 15? Well I started doing Iron Kids at that age. I grew up in South Africa (I now live in the UK). I raced and trained with one of my best mates (Conrad Stoltz) and later Raynard Tissink joined us at the “game” too. I remember my HR low when I was 17 was normally around 42 (I’m talking resting not sleeping). Genetically I have a low HR. My HR can be as low as 30 when I wakeup in the morning.

BTW: Raynard has never beaten me in a Triathlon  (Those were the days… He will trash me now!)

  1. What’s your resting HR? 38

  2. What’s your max HR? 192

  3. AT HR? Run = 145

  4. LT HR? Run = 178

  5. Vo2max if you know it Don’t know

  6. PB Ironman none (but 8.50 for Nice 2002)

  7. PB Olympic 2.25 (Lausanne, tough bike)

  8. Age 31

  9. years in the sport 14

  10. bike Trek 5200 OCLV (lots of climbing where I live, which is why I don’t have a tri-bike)

I expect all these results to significantly get better this year as I finally am able to train for running after years of cartilage problems. The run is my strength.

Hey post, was the 42 before you started training, or after? I still have 2 years though, hopefully it’ll be that low by then

I know this is pretty lame, but here is goes

Cannondale Track (DA Track, w/ front brake)

Come on i’m looking for some answers here. A lot of people here seem to have a pretty high vo2max and a pretty low resting HR. Was your HR that low? I’m just asking because I wanna know if the fact my HR isn’t as low as some of yours rules me out for having a high vo2max?

  1. What’s your resting HR? 42

  2. What’s your max HR? 183

  3. AT HR? don’t know

  4. LT HR? don’t know

This board is full of high-potential people. Now someone answer my question (2 posts above).

VO2max really isn’t that important, esp for triathletes. So I’ve never really bothered to get it tested and tracked. Also I vaguely remember seeing studies that showed max HR DECREASED in well trained individuals. Someone with more current knowledge than me can verify or refute that little tidbit.

as far as PB’s, my best olympic distance was 2:15 or so, but that was a long time ago and I’m a crappy runner. Mostly I do sprint’s, pb is 1:05, set last year, and cycling races.

In training, I normally use the RPE scale to monitor exertion levels. I wear a HR monitor, but that is really to monitor recovery from intervals. ie in certain sets I won’t start the next interval until my HR has dropped below 120. Much of the reason for that is practical, I train at 5:00 am, its dark, and I can’t see the monitor when going hard.

HR at your age is not important! Neither is VO2max! Your VO2max WILL change from 15 years to 18! Males build more muscle at this age and hormones will make changes too. Your MAIN advantage at your age is your ability to recover super quick compaired to us “older” guys here. I was a below AVE athlete at 15 (apart from swimming) then by the time I reached 17 I was running 3000m at national level and a top junior Triathlete in the making. SO a lot can change in 2 years (even the next 5!) when your young. Keep going and ENJOY it!
