On Topic Discussion: First Race of Season

Was wondering what everyone’s first scheduled race for the season is? My first race is St. Anthony’s Olympic Distance Tri April 25th in St.Petersberg, FL.

Athens (TX) YMCA Sprint - 3/13

Powerman Alabama, March 28.

What’s with this “on-topic” crap? Oh yeah, it’s Friday the 13th.

May 22nd, Effingham IL, Sprint. The 5/22 is for race experience (yeah right) for the Big One on 6/20, Springfield, IL, 1/2IM. The latter is the one that keeps me from getting to training sessions late, and from deciding it’s too cold to run.

Martian Marathon, yes it is a real race, and yes I know it is not multisport, but it is march 27th in michigan and nobody is running a tri or du that early up here

Third week in May. That’s the problem with a northern clime, the season is shorter.

The inaugural Valdese (NC) Sprint Triathlon, the first race in the new Endurance Development Series
.

UBC Triathlon (University of British Columbia) March 7th. Sprint (not ready for Olympic). Snowed or freezing the last two years (fortunately indoor olympic length pool swim.)

TT,

I did the Effingham sprint last summer when it was in August. It is probably a great first tri to do. The race director (Becca) is super nice and great to talk to. The worst thing I can say about it is that the scenary is VERY dull and boring. But for the middle if IL there is not much that can be done about that. It is awesomely flat. There is a 90 degree turn going out and comming back in from the bike that you will need to slow down for. Last year there was construction that was not yet completed by race time and the turn was covered in gravel. I took it too hard and went down.

I’m doing the May sprint this year as well and I’ll be back for the 1/2 on 6/27.

Back on topic: My first race is April 25 in Cape Giradeau, MO. Then May 2nd in Columbia, MO and the Ultramax 1/2 on 6/20 in St Louis.

I’m doing the Effingham one in August too. I figire it’ll be a good way to evaluate my progress. Same course, May v. August.

Back to our regularly scheduled program.

Isn’t the August race Olympic distance?

Hey cerveloguy

As a fellow Ontarian…just wondering which race series you follow. We might have crossed paths at some point in time. I used to only do the Trisport series but now that Multisport Canada is out there I’ve done a bunch of theirs as well. I can never seem to chose one or the other series so last year I ended up doing almost all of both series. Mostly the shorter stuff (too much racing to go long all the time). I’m pretty easy to spot…the slightly out of shape guy going hard on a yellow Powerwing to make up for the time I’ll lose on the run…30-34 age group. Maybe we could hook up at a race and take pics for the board or some other strange thing.

Powerman, AL

April 24th a 500 yard swim- 5 mile bike -2 mile run. Doc. Spockman tri in Carbondale Ill. Then a short drive to Cape Girardeau Mo. for a 500-18-5 tri the next day.

Kentiger,

We’ve probably crossed paths as I have races in both series as well - I’m the guy on the blue and yellow Guru trying to make up for all of the time I lost in the swim.

For the record, my first (multisport) race of the year will be Madeira, May 9. My first race of the year will be the Spring Run-Off in High Park.
