… I had been looking and looking for a “man bag” that wasn’t a ‘man purse’ (or murse as I call em). To my surprise, it’s actually pretty darn tough to find a bag that doesn’t look just like purse, only for cough men. I need something with a long strap that could be worn across the chest so I can carry it while packing a 1 year old and holding a 4yo’s hand in the morning. I needed lots of pockets and a “cargo area” large enough to carry a binder, 10 or so folders (or laptop). I wanted something that was much more ‘Indiana Jones’ than ‘Kenneth Cole’.
Anyway, I found this and it’s awesome. It’s army messenger’s bag or (sometimes called) engineer bag. Not my actual bag, but exactly like it.
And the second thing, I’m not sure how many “Rise Against” (band) fans there are here, but I think these guys flat-out rock. Lotsa power chords, and double bass, with a lead singer with talent. Here’s some samples …
That looks like a cool bag. I’ve been using a JANND daypack as my ‘man purse,’ but I’m always looking for the next perfect pack … I’ve been eyeing this: http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Tactical-Handbag,878,1394.htm . Where did you get your bag and who makes it?
I dig everything about Rise Against except there hardcore leftist politics. But that goes with their territory.
I really dig the band, and am somewhat thankful that some of the songs are not on the Rockband video games (I’m sure they’re available for download) … or else I’d quickly be on my 4th set of drums. I would beat those poor electrical imitations senseless and eventually … out of commission.
I’m seriously considering getting rid of our pool table & darts room and sound-proofing that baby for a new set of drums. I am trying to decide whether to get real drums or the “bars/pads” that can be hooked up to a computer, etc.
This set at out local pawn shop keeps calling “Yoo Hoo” to me every time I drive by. My 7yo son would no doubt be highly interested as well. You know about band stuff, is there a way to quickly change drums from a “left-handed” (me) setup to a “righty” (him)?
A real set wouldn’t be too difficult (with one exception). Assuming a basic 5 piece with a ride, hi hat, and 1 or 2 crash cymbals, you’d simply swap the floor tom and the snare and swap the ride and hi hat, all of which stand on their own. The problem you’d have is that the two hi toms would be in reverse order for one of you, which wouldn’t be a problem 98% of the time. Its that 2% that it would be really annoying.
On an electronic set you could buy an extra pad put it on the right side of the set as your “left handed hi hat”. Then you’d simply switch a few of 1/4" jacks in the back (switch snare w/ tom3, tom 2 w/ tom 1, unplug hi hat and plug in lefty hi hat).
I play on electric drums right now. The nice thing about them is that they will save your ears and the ears of your family members. You can plug in head phones or just turn the volume down on your amp. The only down side is that they aren’t as cool as real drums and they sound just a little fake when playing live. I’m hoping to get a real set eventually, put it won’t be until I get a house with more room.
Rise Against have a good sound- bumped into them on Pandora (I need noise while studying, perhaps having Slowtwitch blocked would help too!). As for the bag, I picked up a size M Timbuktoo (sp?) bag a couple years ago and it’s done well. If you really want to keep it real, get ahold of one of the bags that a Claymore mine comes in.
Someone in the thread mentioned Blackhawk- they make very durable stuff.
