…my daughter asked a question, “If you were starting a team, who would you pick out of all the current players?”
Taking into account age, position, etc., I settled on Mahomes.
What say you?

Mahomes is without question the correct answer. 24 yo, reigning MVP playing the games most important position. He’s also been great in the community and chock full of the intangibles GM’s like to blather about.
Oh yes, Mahomes.
It’s hard to argue against Mahomes.
Ok, lets change the rules.
CONGRATS – you just won the new NFL lottery and now will own a new team. To form this team, you get to take 1 player from each team to build your team with…
Russell Wilson. He is still young and has won a ring.

Interesting question!
I’ll let the Giants go first and then do the opposite.
I like Mahomes but give him one more year to prove he wasn’t a flash in the pan. Remember - RG3 and Kaepernik both had great seasons before coming down to earth.
I’d take Andrew Luck. He’s the real deal - only 29, and one of the best 3 QBs in the NFL
Baker Mayfield. He commands the respeCt OF his teammates and his desire to win is infectious.

No way you actually believe that. Mayfield is good and I think he can be great. But he’s in a different, lower, level physically from Mahomes.
Russell Wilson. He is still young and has won a ring.
Not if you have to pay him his current contract. Too high.
An offensive lineman. Doesn’t matter how mobile or accurate if no pass pro or run game

Baker set the rookie QB TD pass record and did it with 2 less games than the previous recordholders. They were Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson. I heard that Manning guy had a pretty decent career.

Under the CBA most “good” QB’s are over priced. Which makes me wonder why Rothlisberger and Rogers etc don’t get replaced by someone less expensive. You can’t win the big game paying a QB 30+ million a year in today’s NFL unless your last name is Brady.

Ironically, Brady only gets $15m/yr due to team discount

Uhm …
Brady
2016 - 13.7M
2017 - 14M
2018 - 22M
Brady’s wife is a bazillionaire and Brady has been willing to low ball his salary to free up more money for the team. Brady is a horrible example.
The Rodgers contract would have killed a number of teams. But, the Packers were loaded with cash last year and paid $67M of the $103M guaranteed in 2018. While the “average” is 33.5M/yr, the cap hit is:
2016 - 19.2M
2017 - 20.3M
2018 - 20.9M
2019 - 26.5M
