Is a base prep product such as Swix BP99 worth purchasing and using, or should I just go ahead with CH10?
Given that my skis are relatively new, would it be worth my while to condition the bases with this stuff? I’ve seen a few articles (such as this one here) that recommend the use of a base prep product - though strangely, the article linked mentions BP88, which is a DH wax according to the Swix website.
I’ve used both special “base prep” and CH10 waxes over the years and have concluded it makes no difference. That wax isn’t going to be your top (e.g., nearest to the snow) layer anyway so I don’t see how it could matter.
I would do it. And I use the Moly Fluoro Base Conditioner Wax after awhile (only on skis that have black bases). In fact, the base conditioner just turned the nice white bases of my new K2 PEs pink (someone ripped off my 3 y/o PE two weeks ago - go figure) . . . but that might have been 'cause I hotboxed the shit out of them ; )
Although I am mainly a alpine skier . . . scratch that, I am really my son’s Sherpa and wax technician (read bitch) . . . and do not know that much about the nordic wax world. Deeg on this form is a hell of an nordic guy and might chime in.
I think that CH10 will get you a high rate of return for cleaning the bases - it will do a good job of getting in the pours and pushing out the dirt. I think the Base Prep does that extra bit more to help ''reconditon" the bases.
I would get the 180 gm block and use it when I rewax the skiis.
