Olympics... does anyone really care?

Hello,

I didn’t see anything in your post which indicated that you were talking about tri in the OG versus the OG as a whole. Certainly tri could dissappear without a huge effect to the games.

The Olympics really has lost it’s luster in a number of sports, and doesn’t carry the same stigma it once did

Just for the record…

Stigma (n): A mark of shame or discredit

The Ashes were great and encompassed everything that is great about competitive sport!

And we won!

And the Australians lost

And I am going to ‘Straya’ on Monday

And have lots of Aussie mates who really want to hear how good England are

umm…i think you will find that since hamish carter, bevan docherty, and sarah ulmer all did so well at the olympics in triathlon and cycling respectively that triathlon and cycling will only get bigger in nz.

and now we have something like 4 world champions in rowing. all this from a country of 3.5 mill

I do not see Lance’s winning the Tdf making bike racing more popular in

the US.

Dave

The olympic programming over here has become 2 minutes of competition, 15 minutes of ‘up close and personal’ and 10 min of ads and 3 more minutes of events. There so little time devoted to competition. With all of those sports going on, it should be one big sports fest, but it’s all ads and ‘personal’ junk! Put the personal stuff on the network’s web site.

I enjoyed the Olympic TRi except that it was condensed into ~10-15 minutes of viewing time. I guess we all have ADD and can’t follow this stuff for any length of time.

What colour are the clouds on your planet?

Lance being such a legend has certainly increased cycling the world over (except possibly places like Europe where it had already reached near maximum anyway)

Lance has made a huge difference even here down under.

"I do not see Lance’s winning the Tdf making bike racing more popular in the US. "

I’d say Lance made the general public a lot more aware of the TDF and got a lot more people riding bikes. Just watch the USA loss of interest in the post Lance era unless an American is a winner.

this month? current races or only kona?
