most things in life are “ish”.
Not near as ‘ish’ as triathlon distances though.
There is a well known race organizer in the midwest, that stopped getting their races USAT certified this year. Oddly enough everyone of their races has at least one distance that is short by enough for an easy PR.
All races are ish since so many variables. Swim bouys always drift around some. GPS is variable to some degree.
If I remember correctly, to have a run course certified, it takes the course at all the shortest tangents and angles. This would
be probably impossible to bike or run.
All the matters is on that day on that course, how are times compared to who showed up. But even then, depending of wave starts,
the weather can change quite a bit.

^ Yes. Did one Olympic distance this year where the bike was 20 miles instead of 24. The swim was still a mile and the run six, though.
