Olympic hopeful, Jenny Crain, hit by car, critically injured

Ironmayb posted in the Desiree Ficker thread that Jenny Crain, elite runner, Olympic hopeful, Milwaukee native, and over-all ambassador for the sport of running, was hit by a car and critically injured on Tuesday. She is still in very bad shape and (as of last reports) remains in ICU. Our hopes and prayers go out to her.

To Jenny and her family: You are a local legend and an inspiration to many of us. Stay strong and have a speedy recovery!

I would guess that pulls John Lancaster out of this weekend–IML. I was horrified by the incident.

Scary. Scary. Scary.

thanks for posting the links. My thoughts and prayers to she and her family.

Sad news.

That’s pretty awful. I remember seeing her last year when she had a fantastic marathon here. The article said the light was changing, but who has the right of way at the time??

the driver was not cited at the scene.

I believe he did but in any case it is tragic. EDIT: for both Ms. Crain and the driver (I can imagine being in either postion)

Best wishes and good energy to her for a full recovery.

Sad, sad news. Hoping the best for her.

I was on her team in college (Ohio Univ) and she’s really a great gal. Super fun and awesome personality. She got quite a bit faster after college…

There were several emails bouncing around from past allumnus all day today. It just sucks. I was in a great meeting in Vegas when I read the news and it totally took the wind out of me. I can’t count how many times I’ve almost been hit by some oblivious driver. Hope her injuries aren’t as bad as they seem…but they seem pretty critical.

Here is some of what Jeeny’s family posted on her website yesturday, she needs all our positive thoughts and prayers

Her condition remains critical, with continued focus on treating her brain, vertebrae, carotid artery, and jaw injuries. The care team cannot get a full assessment of the brain injury until the swelling in the brain subsides, which as been decreasing in very small increments. The family had many questions about the brain injury, with the doctors unable to give an accurate assessment until the swelling decreases. While Jenny has broken vertebrae the doctors did report that it does not appear that she has spinal cord damage. While this is hopeful news, it is not conclusive.

she is a strong woman and hopefully that will help her
