So I have been training really hard for this marathon in September, and I think I have a shot at Olympic trials qualifying cut. My best friend really wants me to do a triathlon with him on that same day. The triathlon starts at 8:16am and I think I could do about 2 hours flat and catch a quick Uber across town for the marathon start at 11am. I feel like I am in really good shape for both and could pull it off. I feel like the triathlon would bring good luck because it has “Olympic” right there in the name. Any advice for training or race day to make my double Olympic dreams come true?
sounds like a plan.
Nah, you shouldn’t uber across town, you should do a recovery ride across town, spin those legs out. But otherwise, solid plan.

Unbelievable. I would think you were a troll if there was some previous experience here.
So you haven’t made the Olympics Trials time cut. Sounds like you’re undercutting your goal by doing an Oly with a friend and finishing 45 minutes beforehand. Why not post a thread on what would you do 2-3 hours before a marathon where I hope to get a qualifying time for the Olympic Trials?
Are you trolling us? Did you post this on ST by mistake and really thought you were posting on Letsrun?

You’re an odd dude.

Yes! That will make it a done deal!

Don’t forget to get in a couple sets of squats before the triathlon. Your body craves them…
Ha! And it might stop this type of thread for about a week.

if you cut the full into an half ironman the week before it should be fine
i would also advice to cycle to the 10 k mark since you already did 10 k there is a few threads on this forum how to do it .
if you dont feel comfortable with that you could the the marathon on an elliptical trainer and brand yourself findingmarathoncowboy.
while you are at it start a thread ellipticalgraveltriathlon will be the next thing.
Keep the wetsuit on, because that will save you doing a second warmup.
And if it’s raining, hang onto the goggles, and the helmet, in case you slip.
Who the hell are you and what have you done with my friend Dave?
If you wanted to do the Olympic tri a week before your marathon it would be a horrible idea, but since it’s 45 minutes before you should be just fine. Good luck!

Air squats only, combined with squatty potty.
I believe Ben Greenfield did this before Rio.

Don’t forget to back up your solid plan with several tacos and a couple of beers the night before. You’ll be ready to rock that marathon, after crushing the Olympic triathlon. I’d also go ahead and get your Olympic Rings tattoo.

FIFY, because, you know, taco power!
Reading this thread on my train ride home from work… I just want to say, thanks for the entertainment!
I feel pretty good about your plan, and even better about your chances of qualifying for the Olympics, particularly if you follow a keto diet that day and stay zero to no-carb in-between events. Not only will you be leaner, but possibly better looking and generally more likeable due to the swirling ketones and space-age polymers in your system.
However, my only concern is the very specific 8:16am start time. Seems odd.
Best of luck, and please send us pics!

No one really does a triathlon “together”. You might spend some time with your bro before the race starts, tire pumping, applying lotion on each other’s backs, taking selfies, eat a banana together, wetsuit fitting etc, but after the race, you’ll be gone and thats when you really want to be there for your friend. If you are Ubering out right away, then I don’t see the point in being there for your friend. Tell your friend to ‘man up’ and do the race by himself. He doesn’t need you there to hold his hand. He probably just wants someone there to take Instagram or Facebook pics of him.
I think the additional cross training will help your marathon time.
Just take some ketone esters and you’ll be fine.
