I have recently acquired a new old stock Pinarello from 2010 and I love the bike bit today’s aero rim profiles are to wide for the frame so my question is in a quest to fine a nice used set of 50-60 mm wheels how far back do I need to go before the change took place ?..thanks

There’s no single answer to that. The first “wide” rims started appearing around 2009-2010 (HED C2, Zipp Firecrest). The rest of the industry filtered in with the most diehard only giving in to wide rims over the last 2-3 years. You’ll have to just look up specs per model-year.

i and a guy i ride with have American Classic 420s aero 3 that old and they are thin and have held up very well.

I’ve got a 2010 p3 and it won’t take wider tyres/ rims I run the dimples Zipp wheels there are very fast, you couldn’t quantify the difference v a newer wide Zipp for a solid punter (5hr Ironman 2.25 70.3 bike splits I do). My bike is engineered to work best with those wheels also so i feel happy with my set up.
You can’t beat a set older Zipp 606! Good luck.

Yer $550 is a really reasonable price for that wheel. The nice thing on the zipped is the bearings are really easy to change, they are easy to get from a local bearing shop for a few bucks . So if the hubs happen to feel a touch gritty when you get them just youtube how to replace the bearings and google the bearing size needed and you can do that job in ten mins.
I have the tubular version but the clinchers like on that link also brilliant.

Last thing just check if you are running 11 speed they might not work for you. I upgraded my groupset to ultegra r8000 and had to get a special cassette to be able to run 11 speed on those wheels. There are some other tricks to like removing a cog and running your 11 spacing as a ten, just google it to find out more.
It’s hard to put an accurate value on 8 year old wheels. Unless I knew the seller and was very confident about the mileage, I’d be worried about how much life is left in the rims. But that’s just me.
Pinarrellos can be funny. I’ve seen 25mm GP4ks2 tires rub on a Dogma when mounted on older “narrow” rim on the rear. The front was\s fine. I’ve had a 25mm GP4ks2 rub older Reynolds Assaults on a 2004 Litespeed Ultimate on the rear, too.
An older rim may not work for you. I would borrow a friend’s wheel to test in advance. You may have to stick with 23s on the Pinarello.
