I dug my race wheels out of storage and some how or another my front wheel is missing the caps that cover the bearings. I called HED and they said the best they can do is rebuild the wheel with a new hub at an estimated cost of $150.
That’s certainly cheaper than a new wheel, but all I need is two caps. I can’t believe they don’t have any of them lying around somewhere. Sure, the wheel’s ~10 years old, but still…
Anyone have any suggestions short of a rebuild?
I might actually have some—let me check tonight. No promises I may be able to only find one.
Look for a HED wheel of similar vintage on eBay. I know the newer hubs are significantly different from their older wheels.
Man, that would be sweet if you did! Let me know.

HED came through!
I got an email earlier this week from Tim at HED - said he’d found some of the caps. He even sent them to me at no charge! Just got the package today. Thanks, HED!
Before I’d heard from him, I was looking on craigslist and someone had listed a HED Jet 60 for $100. I snatched that up quick. Now I guess I have two front race wheels.
See you at Boulder long course next weekend. Look for a really tall guy on a black Softride with HED wheels.
