I have someone locally who has 2 older hed disks, he says one is a 27 in. and the other is a 26 in. Both appear to be in great shape, and for the price seem worth it if they will work. Im a college kid looking for a cheap used set of race wheels.
my questions:
-is it possible to use either of these two wheels for my p2sl?
-can I put a 9 or 10 spd cassette on them?
-or em I better off just getting a wheel cover for my crap training wheels?
*note the price of the discs are the same as buying a wheel cover
Your Cervelo will probably not fit a 650c (26") wheel, unless its a 650c frame. The only one that will work is the 27" / 700c.
As far as the cassette goes, that all depends on the age of the disc. If its too old it will only take a freewheel not a 9 speed cassette. If the hub has a screw on thread body then the answer is “no”, only a freewheel will work, and that does not include 9 speeds. Ff it is indeed “new enough” that the hub body is a cassette style, then the answer is “yes” it will work with the 9 speed cassette.
As far as compatibility goes, you need to figure out whether or not it is a freewheel or a freehub rear wheel. If it’s a freewheel, you’d be limited to a 6-8 speed drivetrain and you’d have to get a different chain… etc.
NOPE…that is a screw on freewheel NOT a cassette. You cannot use 9 speed on it. You could find a rare 8 speed screw on freewheel and use your 9 speed shifters in friction mode. Shifting will only be OK at best.
