Olaf and Xantusia

Congrats to Olaf for his first Ironman win in Brazil. I do have to say however that I predicted this. He was here at the ranch for his final preparation, and I could sense that he was finally ready. A bit of a stubborn German, but tough as they come. Normally he would do very little swim training before an Ironman, but I forced his butt into the water every other day, and we hammered. I told him that the couple minutes that he would gain make all the difference in the world. He could ride on the front instead of catching up most of the ride, and then his run is one of the best in the sport. I believe he backed off in Brazil because of his big lead, and will make his big push in Austria. For those out there that don’t know,I believe he rode a 4:17 there last year , but had an injury that kept him out of the run. Barring injury, I predict here, that he will go under 8 hrs., and assault the world record there. It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. He is soon to be a new father of two, and has struggled with being a pro for over 15 years. And you want to talk about ethics, this guy prefers to ride 20 meters away from any other rider, and considers advil a drug. Good job Olaf, and hope to see you here again before Hawaii…

I met Olaf last year at Ironman Brazil. Since then he has been coaching my Wife who happens to be german.

I also must say that Olaf is one of the nicest pros, heck person you will ever meet. I can not say enough good things about him. He is a great guy for sure.

My wife was so excited on Saturday when we were getting the Ironman results live. She was jumping all over the couch as the results were streaming in. We were so pumped when Olaf took a commanding lead on the run.

Having done the course last year we had a pretty good idea of where he was during his run and what he might be going through.

I am thinking that the Brazil win will help him get some more sponsors. I am really looking forward to him going to Hawaii. IMO if he has a good day there, watch out.

Oh and by the way Olaf is a twin.
