Okay, UFC fans...Gonzaga or Couture?

Heart says don’t count out The Natural…but the head says “look out, Randy!”…should be a good one—anyone catch the “All Access” show where they showed that training center that is a bunch of trampoline-type contraptions all put together? That looked like one awesome workout!

And then Koschek-St. Pierre----I say GSP wins but Koschek gives him a good test…he is so damn quick that he has a legit chance, I think, but GSP is the much more well-rounded of the two and probably very focused after losing to Serra.

Couture and GSP those are your winners. I do not know how somebody Randy’s age does it but man he looks to be in great shape. Hell I am 6 years younger than him and I ache all over and my arthritis flairs up just thinking about wrestling again, I could not imagine doing MMA.

I think Gonzaga has a slight edge but I’ll be routing for Randy.

On the other I think Koschek has more desire to win right now. I’m not sure if GSP has recovered mentally from the beating he took.

Narrow edge to Couture from the experience, composure side of things. Longer it goes, the more it swings in his favor. Going with Koscheck over GSP just because he’s so fit and well-rounded, but that one can absolutely go either way. YouTube at the ready ;).

I think GSP is hungry, hungry…I look for him to be very sharp, but Koschek is a very skilled wrestler who has fairly quickly become a very good MMA’er…should be IMO the bout of the night.

I’m with you on the main event…I will be rooting for the old guy…but I wouldn’t bet on this one.

The Natural baby!!! Though, that Neandrathal Gonzaga scares me…he almost kicked CroCops head right off last time out…that was seriously scary…I hope Randy takes him.

I also hope GSP knocks Kos out…Kos is way too cocky…I like GSP humble style…and Montreal is one of my favorite cities…

Should be a fun night, the beers are already cold!

Yep, should be fun. Looking forward to seeing Kendall Grove fight as well, to see how he continues to progress…Joe Stevenson as well.

Totally agree with you on the attitude of Koscheck versus that of GSP—the latter seems very much in line with Couture, for example, while Kos is…well, he’s out there. But tons of talent, or so it would appear up to this point. I think I’m looking forward to this fight more than any…

“I also hope GSP knocks Kos out…Kos is way too cocky.”

I have trouble with a fighter who sports Justin Timberlake’s haircut from 5 or 10 years ago. Plus, GSP looks like he’s ready to go. Watching the prefight special on Spike, he looks pretty tough.

GSP is the real deal. Personally, I think he just got caught with a lucky punch that rung his bell and couldn’t recover from it. That won’t happen again to him.

That Was a sweet night of fighting…Couture and GSP took care of Business!

Man Gonzaga is a tough dude…hanging in there after his nose was destroyed…Man…“thats gonna leave a mark”…no doubt!

Glad GSP dominated Kos…I bet he has never been on his back that much …EVER.

The only downer…was all that blood on the mat …from the undercard fights…was unfortunately from my OKlahoma boy David Heath, Babalu apparently opened up a huge gash on his forhead, before disposing of him with a choke in the second rd.
Oh Well. Other then that,a fun family night of head-crackin, arm-twistin, nose breakin FUN!

Word

Great night. Won a couple of bucks with good odds on Randy. His skill level is higher than everyone but Fedor. Thats the fight I want to see. Maybe Matt Lindland and Couture, but Fedor needs to fight in the cage.

KOS never had a chance with GSP. He doesnt have the skills yet.

Met Kendall a few months ago and he was a total dumbass. Glad to see him get his ass kicked. Hes a good fighter but I think the fame went to his head. Hope he gets back on track and fights Ed again.

LOOKING FORWARD TO TUF! I hope Hughes het his ass handed to him by Serra.

On a side note. I’m fucking TIRED of not seeing all the undercard fights. Just play them after the main event. Whats so hard about that? Dana is a good business man but he’s a little off on this one. For 45 bucks, I better not have to go drop another 10 to see the undercard. The F’ing UNDERCARD!!! bad move by Dana.

Boy, was it ever a sweet one!

Randy Couture…the legend grows. He freaking picked Gonzaga up and dropped him like a sack of rocks…wow! Sure used those Greco-Roman techniques to a “t” as well. Awesome fight, and agreed on how tough Napao is, fighting with a Grand Canyon of a gash and unable to breathe through there for the majority of the fight…but it looked like he simply had enough when the bout was stopped.

Also glad GSP was so dominant as well—even better that he dominated the wrestler with…wrestling. Another amazing one.

Re: Babalu—read at Sherdog that there was controversy in that he held on to the choke well after the tapout, and even admitted later to doing so on purpose. Supposedly half his purse is being held up while the Nevada Athletic Commission investigates…speaking of dumbasses, what would the reasoning have been for that move by Sobral? Besides wanting to be a dickhead??

Funny, I heard one of the commentators mention seeing the fights at UFC.com Sunday…and then a very nonchalant mention of “loving those UFC ‘On Demand’ fights”—and then it made sense to me, you have to pay to see them. Agree 100% on showing the whole card—just because there’s yahoos in the arena that don’t want to see all of the matches, that doesn’t mean we, who as you say drop $40-60 for the PPV, don’t want to.

On the other hand…the free card at UFC 75 coming up in two weeks looks like a damn good one.

LaWolf…I agree, I wish we could see more of the pre-card fights…but it really depends on how long the main card fights go. They have basically 3 live hours to show 4 main card fights. The four undercard fights are all timed…to the second. Depending on how much “fill-time” they have(depending on if the early main card fights go quickly(Kendall getting KO"d) they end up throwing in some pre card fights. They showed the Heurta fight last night. It depends on how much time they have and how good the pre card fights end up being. A few of the other PPV’s have shown 2-3 pre card fights.

My sister in law works for the Zuffa TV Director ,she gave me the low down.

Thats her huggin up to M Hughes .

I think the most I’ve seen on any of the PPV’s over the last 18 months has been 7 of the 9 fights on the card. I think last night we got 6—we didn’t see Guida and Sobral’s bouts, both of which I would have liked to have watched. And no, I didn’t plunk down another $10 to watch it on UFC.com…there is a line somewhere…

I know I’m in the minority on this, but I really don’t like the way the Gonzaga Couture fight went down, and I’m a big Couture fan. The headbutt piledriver pretty much sealed the fight. Not saying it was intentional, though I’m not saying it wasn’t, it just doesn’t sit well with me. I’d definitely like to see a rematch.

I really don’t see it that way. If you can pick up a 250+ pound man and body slam him with your full 220+ pound mass you can expect that something bad is gonna happen to someone- something is gonna break. I guess in those sort of uncontrolled slams anything goes and I really don’t see how Gonzagas nose getting smashed by Randy’s head during a slam is any different than it getting smashed by Randy’s fist. Both are a planned effort to dismantle the other guy, the difference being that you know exactly where fist might land, but in a slam you are not quite sure where things might end up- but the intnet is to damage. To me this sort of head butt is far different than the accidental clash you see when both men are leaning in. The bottom line is that Randy nuked him with a smashing body slam and that changed the fight. If Randy’s shoulder had smashed and borken on of Ganzaga’s ribs or he had KO’d him with the slam I doubt you would feel they way you do.

On another note what a great card and great fights top to bottom. I loved the Crane / Huerta fight man those guys knew how to roll. Crane really was one tought dude, he just simply said I don’t care how many time you hit me I am gonna submit you. It’s to bad he did not strike more than he did, end the end he just took to much from Huerta, I think if he had made Huerta keep honest a bit by trying to strike back he would have a had a chance. But Huerta knew that he could swing almost at will with almost 0 respone from Crane trying to hit back.

Huerta was awesome. You’re right, if it had been a butt with his shoulder, I wouldn’t feel any way about it, but… It was his head and deliberate headbutts are illegal in the UFC. Moreover, under the sanctioning rules of the Nevada Athletic Commission under which this fight was held, there are all sorts of contingencies about accidental butts including time to recover, deduction of points, and the ruling of a no-contest. I didn’t make it up, those are the rules. A guy with Couture’s experience knows the throw well enough that he could, if he wanted, easily use his head as a weapon in that context.

The slam thing in and of itself is not that huge a deal to men of this experience. Fedor got supplexed, no biggie, and Gonzaga’s taken thousands of slams in training. These guys know how to take a fall. Basically, even though it’s an outside chance, I don’t like the prospect that the fight could have been decided by Couture using his head deliberately in the throw. That’s my call, not asking you to feel the same way.

I understand, I just don’t think it was deliberate at all- just happened to be where al the parts came together.

How about Ganzaga stopping the fight becasue he said he could not see- I thought he was quiting and I think Dean thought the same, that was odd.
