Super Bowl fans in Tucson, Arizona, caught a different kind of show during Sunday’s big game.
Just as Cardinals’ superstar Larry Fitzgerald watched himself sprint into the end zone on the stadium’s Jumbotron during Sunday’s Super Bowl, 10 seconds of eye-popping pornographic imagery “flashed” across the screens of those watching at home.
“We are mortified by last evening’s Super Bowl interruption, and deeply apologize to our customers for the inappropriate programming,” Comcast Cable said in a written statement.
“Our initial investigation suggests this was an isolated malicious act,” the statement added. Comcast, and several local television stations that carried the signal, say they are currently investigating what caused the interrupti “It appears this material was only viewed by some Comcast customers,” local Tucson television station KVOA-TV said in a written statement.
Television station KVOA added “when the NBC feed of the Super Bowl was transmitted from KVOA to local cable providers and through over-the-air antennas, there was no pornographic material,” KVOA President and General Manager Gary Nielsen said in a separate statement.
I saw a clip of this…where someone had been filming their television (why would anyone do that…?)
It literally cut from Fitzgerald to a scene with a woman unzipping a man’s pants, then he took his “junk” out and shook it around right in front of the camera.
When I first graduated from college I got a job as a master control op at a PBS station. A few years into the job, the station was making the change over to automation. A computer would do part of the job I once did. This change over was done very slowly and not during “peak viewing”. For whatever reason one night the computer which was supposed to be “offline” changed on air then crashed. We were supposed to be airing the News Hour, however the glitch forced an extreme close-up of penetration. Of course the switcher was dead so fading to black wasn’t an option. We were able to get to the pacthbay and override the system and force black to the air but I bet it took a good :45 seconds.
To be honest this should happen a lot more. Live TV comes right from the “bird” The satellite is dived up into transponder’s. Digital allows a lot more info to travel thru a transponder. PBS shared a transponder with porn. A simple glitch would cause this to hit the air. A lot of those transponder’s have porn on them.
My guess though. Dude doing master control wasn’t paying attention and had porn in his preview with the game on the air. Fitz makes a big play he gets excited and accidentally hits it to air. “One button away” is what we get told at times if we are shooting a live sporting event and get a little to risque on our shot. It’s easy to do.
FYI a camera can shoot across a stadium and get the whites of your eyes. When you think nobody is watching I promise you that we ARE and it is being recorded!
