Those fancy bottles have straws that aren’t very aero, plus I like to just toss the bottle and replace at aid stations. The Torhans is an option but I don’t think it will fit “flush” with the frame (which is important for aero)
Rob I am interested in seeing how much faster the bike is, did you do any wind tunnel testing on the Shiv or the Dimond?
I tested the shiv but not the Dimond yet. Hoping to make it down to ERO at some point but right now it feels like every waking hour when I’m not working, I’m training!
thats really amazing bike ! one of the nicest beam bikes I have seen
would be good to get the bike computer mounted in front of the bottle(pref near to the shifters) so that you only have to move your eyes instead of looking down and putting your helmet tail in the wind
what about a cable hanger like on the specialized transition and shiv? the bare cable is much finer, reduces housing friction and looks sharper since its a straight line to your brake - you can use a nano coated cable so its protected and any color you want

I have two cable hangers for running a bare cable down the front of the head tube while using the TriRig brake. What I did was buy the 1" steerer version and have the machine shop at work machine it out to a 1.125" version as it looks so much better. The 1.125" version just looks bigger but the 1" modified version is overall smaller and just looks much more aesthetically appealing.
I think I can get away with 2 x bottles on the dimond (one behind seat)
I wonder if you can rig a way to put a bottle directly under the seat? Seems that it would be pretty out-of-the-way, aero-wise (shaded by the head tube and in a region of turbulent air anyway due to your legs moving around it).
The pic below shows my new fit vs the position on my shiv. The red line is the same in both pics to show you how it’s different. Basically it’s longer and lower.
How much additional saddle to pad drop did you end up with on the new fit?

computer - yes good idea - I did notice that on my first ride last week. Will definitely reverse it so that I can see it properly without moving my head
cable hanger - ok I’ll check it out - sounds like a good solution

the dash saddle looks like it has the bottle mounted in a way that does that. either that or I could resort to the ST approved “zip tie method”

The actual pad drop is only 10mm lower now (it’s 135mm). But I’m also “stretched out” more with a further reach, so the net effect is a flatter back than if I’d just managed to drop 10mm on the Shiv.

Oh, heh, I wasn’t clear – I meant like *straight under *the seat, below the beam.
Honestly, you don’t want the TT.9 It’s a pain to get out when you need it.
Go with the Tri.7 If you’re going to get a dash and rig it so the bottle is a little more vertical. You’ll lose next to nothing and be able to grab your bottle with a lot less strain.

Can you explain this a bit more, perhaps even some pictures? I have the IS-CX. The X-CX appears to have a shorter cable hanger but that may be an illusion, and I’m uncertain if it’s possible to remove all the bits and only use the top cap.
This one is for a 1" steerer, I had the machine shop machine it out to 1.125" as there was just enough material to do this. Going this route, the whole set up is narrower and when you have it mounted it just looks cleaner. I decided at first to run the noodle like shown but now that I am using the iLink housings, I have actually done away with the noodle as the iLinks bend enough to enter the hanger.

How do you bike with that red beam on your back? Does that make you more areo? Looks uncomfortable to me
Thanks.
I suppose the only reason not to use this one is that there’s no way to tighten the hanger to the tube to keep it from rotating. Although the brake housing coming out of the EVO Missle Pro stem and the cable straightlining to the Omega brake, along with the downward pressure from the stem should keep it siting still.
Then there’s this hanger which appears to have an integrated dust cap.
Thoughts?
Out of curiosity, what’s the stack height on your cable hanger?
I agree that the one that you link to should be alright once you have pre-loaded everything. I do not think it would move. I will check on the stack height when I get home after work.
Interesting that you went with s-bend extensions, when the Retul used j-bend. Do you find that your wrists or forearms feel more load/tension?
Also, your position looks not just lower in front, but also the saddle position looks significantly forward.
Nice write-up. very impressed with the 40 watt increase; time to get a bike fit. Nice bike as well.

That’s pretty observant! I had to double check myself… I now remember that someone stole Jim’s vuka stealth, so we used another bar in the fit, which he then extrapolated to the setup for a vuka stealth with race extensions.
Yes the saddle is also forward, I’m still getting used to that. More power but also engages parts of my hamstrings that I’m not used to

I don’t think it will translate into race power 40 watts more for me… I think the race watts will be similar, just at a lower perceived effort. But yes its pretty amazing how much of a difference a good fit makes, yet its often the last thing people spend their money on.
