Ohio River Water tempature

Does anyone know of a website that shows the current water temp of the Ohio River?

I think I’d be more worried about the color and smell of the water, not the tempature
.

My brother emailed the race director. She said:

expected water temp is 74-80; at this time we are not sure if wetsuits will be permitted.

I’m not sure what the current temp is.

It was 82 degrees on 7/4/07. We did a supported swim with about 18 folks.

and…how was the water quality???

Compared to the local lake we use for open water, I would say much cleaner. No data to support this. Visibility, and smell were better in the river. No one reported getting sick or anything.

Little rain, with a small current makes for better conditions in the Ohio. This has been the exact conditions for most of the summer, lets hope it continues.

Would that make this the only Ironman in the states that doesn’t allow wetsuits for the swim?

We swam part of the course last weekend at Troy Jacobson’s training camp.

We swam 15 minutes out and then turned back. I wore a wet suit and got very warm in it. If the water stays as warm as it is, wet suits might be dangerous.

The water was ok from my perspective. Neither dirtier or murkier than the lake I swim in around here in Iowa, which might say something about the lake.

The current was quite strong that morning. Most everyone got back 3-4 minutes faster than going out. But I understand the locks will be closed up river to slow the current.

It will be a deep water start, we were told.
