Pretty calculated move. A huge chunk of people won’t care at all, his supporters will eat it up, a chunk of SJW’s will scream to high heaven, a slice of people will be turned off by Democrats support of people they think have something wrong with them.
He really has no risk on this.
Yep it’s enough to make you think Trump is an astute demagogue.
Unfortunately trump really has no risk in anything he does.
The GOP as an entirety has given trump carte blanch with no repercussions other than saying “I am troubled by ].” Rinse repeat.
And it distracts many from the Healthcare and Sessions news.
What is surprising is that it is being reported that the Pentagon referred questions about this to the White House. And SecDef Mattis is on vacation this week. It as if it wasn’t well communicated or coordinated.
The Pentagon on Wednesday said it would provide revised guidance to the U.S. military “in the near future” after President Donald Trump announced a ban on transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military.
“We will continue to work closely with the White House to address the new guidance provided by the Commander-in-Chief on transgender individuals serving the military,” said Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis, referring all questions about Trump’s comments to the White House.
“We will provide revised guidance to the Department in the near future.”

There’s a bit of risk, at least that’s what I am reading in some of the military officer forums I am a member of.
SECDEF Mattis was already creating a look into this, with formal inquiries for combatant and garrison commands to weigh in with their thoughts. This inquiry had a deadline of December 31st. Now, Trump has ‘spoken to his generals’ so he says, and does domestic policy via tweet.
If he undermines his SECDEF, there’s going to be an internal problem. I’m not for or against the policy… my two cents about how the Army does business became irrelevant when I took my uniform off for good. However, there’s enough policy dictated by civilian leadership that rubs the military the wrong way (regardless of party in the oval)… now there’s more.
I’m sure Mattis and Joint Chiefs love getting direction via Twitter.

So, last week we had the story about Donald Trump Jr. lying about the Russians and another non-disclosed meeting with the top advisers on the Trump team.
Then, out of the blue, Trump starts tweeting about Sessions recusing himself and how outraged he is even though Sessions did the recusal on March 2nd and Trump was silent about it until, just about the same time the news of Trump Jr. broke. Now, Trump comes out and bans the trans with more early tweets.
If I didn’t know Donald J. Trump to be such an honest person with a long history of integrity and doing the right thing in the way he treats and cares for others, I might start thinking something was up.
What’s he going to do about transgender already in uniform?
What’s he going to do about transgender already in uniform?
Trump’s just blowing smoke.

What’s he going to do about transgender already in uniform?
Doh!
What’s he going to do about transgender already in uniform?
Unclear. Given all indications point to this being a distraction move, it appears that the Pentagon isn’t ready with all details and was perhaps caught off guard.
Mattis on June 30th-less than a month ago- extended the deadline for the service chiefs to review the transgender policy to Dec 1. It seems like if the White House had coordinated this announcement with the Pentagon then policies to deal with those currently serving would have been in place already.
I am beginning to wonder if Trump has a condition that causes him to seek fame in an almost addictive way.
There is a term for that but it escapes me at this time.

At least 1 former member of seal team 6 is pissed off. Think trump has the balls to meet her?

I predict a flare-up of his heel spur problem.

Do you think he would try his famous “grab them by the pussy” move? Not sure how that would turn out.

No way “somethings up”. The Trump administration isn’t sufficiently organized and deliberate for something to be up.
Here’s my take. And it’s an analysis of the Trump admin that has formed by carefully ignoring him not only in 2017, but also in 2016. I left no stone unturned. Every time I saw a news article about Trump, I clicked away, every single time w/o fail. So it’s me that has the best scoop.
Trump is used to shooting from the hip. He comes up with statements, demands, requests, and criticisms and well, says them. Or at least “types” them. Working for him must be awful tough. I imagine that he’s gone thru a heck of a lot of subordinates over the years, as each desperately attempts to give him what he wants, but then ultimately falls short because he doesn’t clearly communicate what he wants.
This is the guy we got because the GOP faithful were pissed at their leaders, but weren’t smart enough to vote for Rand Paul, and the guy we got because a lot of folks dislike Hilary and she couldn’t mobilize the black vote.
4yrs from now Trump will be receding in our memories like a visit from our crazy Aunt.
As long as the GOP primary issue is anti-immigrant, they’ll drive folks with some sense to the Dems. Near as I can figure, that’s the only important issue that really separates them. Certainly both spend like drunken sailors.

My wife is a National Guard officer (she’s getting ready to head out on her two-week annual training period, starting tomorrow). She says this issue of transgender Soldiers has been nothing but a huge distraction for her unit and that most of the female Soldiers in the unit are the ones questioning the entire program. Almost no Soldier in her unit was in support of the initiative, according to a February survey taken of several state Guard units and organizations, and the hundreds of questions the troops were asking the DoD people sent out to brief on the impending arrival of transgender Soldiers mostly revolved around shower, latrine and barracks accommodations and their discomfort with that, the inevitable confusion my wife says she thinks would result when it came to these biological ‘men’ and/or ‘women’ and so forth. She says it’s just a bridge too far at the moment.
I’m retired military, with much of my enlisted (and a part of my commissioned officer) time spent out in the field, with Marine infantry/Recon units or in some form of special operations/special warfare. Needless to say, I’m not even a fan of having women in the infantry or in special operations ‘trigger puller’ roles, so let me stipulate to that and be honest about where I’m coming from in terms of this debate.
Speaking honestly, I’m also not sure what, if any, issues would arise from transgender troops, especially given that the armed forces are quickly being taken over by Millennials, who seem to be more accepting of such things. It may just be that time will eventually solve this “problem,” especially if North Korea launches a nuclear-tipped ICBM at us next year (the year they’re projected to have intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities, according to the latest news reports) and we need every man jack and “swinging dick” (making a joke
on deck and sending rounds downrange at Whoa Fat over there in Pyongyang. ![]()
But from what I’ve heard through the various military officer groups of which I’m still a member, this was becoming a thorn in the side of SECDEF Mattis, who’d already announced a six-month delay in implementation to further study the issue. Mostly, the feeling was that the initiative was a solution in search of a non-existent problem: there’d been no huge clamor for transgender Soldier rights, or similar issues, and many officers (at least the ones I know, active duty, reserve, and retired) didn’t want the headaches for what would turn out to be a very, very small percentage of troops in the armed forces. Almost every Marine with whom I’ve served and kept in touch with was flat-out against the idea, though I think it was the Army that was leading the push and which was planning on accommodating most of the transgenders that DoD knew about at this point.
At any rate, I think a 2011 report said that the number of adults in the US who identified as transgender ranged from 0.3 to 0.6 percent of the population (up to 1.4 million adults at the high end of estimates). Many people also still have a difficult time accepting that transgenderism and the rights that should appertain are analogous with civil rights for minorities such as blacks or Hispanics.
