Maybe a bit of bad luck the UK im guessing most Oz has their best chance of jumping nationalities to, getting Olympic slots aren’t easy though, especially if you’re female!
Well I can’t say I’m not surprised that it’s the case that fat cats who presume to know better want to party on the “public’s” money with little regard to performance… But that’s unfortunately a strong possibility with the bureaucratic systems we’ve created.
My thoughts are really is to assume competence and it’s just a difference of priorities and opinion.
But it doesn’t surprise me if it’s as you say.
Stapley was eligible to race for Australia and did so till mid 2023. He chose to change flags (eligible to race for GBR too) but did so one race/day too late to be eligible to race for GBR in Paris (even had he been better than Brownlee and Dickinson (he was and is not)). Stapley’s funding/support aspect (inclusion in the relevant BritTri squad) is an aspect that I suspect @SheridanTris has a firm grip on.

Stapley was a completely different situation, ar the time he was trying to get aus passport his results werent at a level to yet be funded in the aus system. There were quite a few aus guys ranked above, and performing better than he. He wasnt one of the top 5 that could or would be selected for world series races. He has improved massively since going to GB, his performances now are way above what they were.
This convo is about Aus not allowing athletes to enter races when they are eligible. Not funding athletes to compete in wtcs who should be funded.
For Tokyo he would have been good .
ps i did speak to a rugby player last week and she said in rugby its 4 years to change countries . ie its not ioc its world triathlon world rugby etc that decide the rules on that
Stapley raced for AUS but he didn’t have an Aussie passport which is a requirement to race at the Olympics. To receive funding you have to be eligible for the Olympics so it was a catch 22 situation for him.
To get an AUS passport he would have had to go back to AUS and stay there which would have meant missing the season and not having enough points to race.
well in a way the only way is for staff that works in high performance to have salary performance markers like their is for athletes ,
improving performance more money , no performance has to leave .
Yes, I know next to nothing about this federation type stuff, but know the UK runs a system on funding per medal return.
well in the first place uk system is doing ok… hard to argue with the success of the uk

but i dont know athletes that have open ended contracts for instance …
i do not see salary basesd on perforamce either , while atheltes get goverment funding usually with a 3 tier sytem ie podium , world class, international level or more tiers like uk and spain
and lose it it they dont make the mark. usuallly on a 1 year contract. i think this year 2 uk atheltes had a 6 month contract
what would happen is if both sides have to be treaded the same way we would likley see longer cotracts for atheltes giving them more security and shorter contracts for hp staff .
to add maternity pay is fairly new for atheltes
ps you are talking about this
and agin uk tri is one of the more transparent organistions.
I think Stapley will get funding from GB next cycle
Be surprised if he doesn’t.
Absolutely, because we are now into a new Olympic cycle and he is eligible for the LA Olympics.
Start lists are up for the grand final
Interesting that a lot of athletes seem to be skipping it. I’m basing this off of the athletes that seem to have gotten in. GB have 6 men starting, would normally not be able to have this many.
I see that Sam Dickinson, who I think is leaving short course to go long (?), is on the list. Makes me wonder if GB are using their athletes to help Alex Yee win the world title? He’s had problems at the grand final for the last two years
Start lists (W then M) here for ease of access:
Good to see four men from Australia listed including McClusky (ranked #142, and #17th best AUS).
Bad to see ZERO women from Australia listed. wtf? There are 11 AUS women ranked higher than McClusky.
Six Brits and seven Germans (W).
Weird. I have no idea about the Australian policy. Dies seem that not all Australian women would voluntarily decline the Grand Final?
Those that qualified were removed by their own federation! There was an U23 male staying in Europe as he had auto qualified, he was removed as well.
Aus Tri is a sh1t show at the moment and has been for quite a while.
It is one thing making qualifying difficult but to actually remove your qualified athletes from the start lists is just plain bonkers. How can they say they are guardians of the future.
Van Coevorden declines. At #58 she is the 5th ranked Aussie in the WTCS Rankings (behind Hoitink, Linn, Hedgeland and Hill).
She is 32.
I guess, if she wants to get on with it, she might start her MD campaign with Melbourne or Busso.

I have been saying it’s a shit show for quite a few years now but this recent removing of athletes and funding cuts is way beyond shit show. HP are Guardians of their own pockets.
Pro Tri News received a statement from TriAus and this insta reproduces is (with Glass typos) - scroll across:

None of the women were judged up to it (WTCS level racing).
And if they dont get to race they never will be. The u/23 athletes are their pipeline for LA and Brisbane, they selected only 1 female , zero men out of 3+3 possible entries. Going to be fun trying to fill a relay team moving forward wirh the new selection policy they have.
That is one of the least credible pieces of corporate hogwash I’ve ever read.
