I’m thinking about getting one…anybody have some cool pictures of their P3SL.
Best Cervelo bike ever.

Not an SL but close:

Here’s mine…

Old school version…this is a 2001/2002 model year. Still my faithful race bike. Not even sure of the size…I think a 52 cm??

.
not mine, but still the best looking P3 i have ever seen, or any other bike for that matter…

What can I say?
MY buddy Kus playing around my P3SL before St. Croix 2006
ahhh, bad memories…i got mugged last year with my fiance about 115 feet from where that bike is…like, 4 dudes jumped us and I got the crap beat out of me (i was coming out of the bars and not really ready to fight ;)…i do really wanna do the st. croix beast race though
Honestly guys, this is really mean… ![]()
I had the bike pictured below. I absolutely loved this bike. It was perfect. When the new P3C came out I sold this bike and bought a P3C. I love my P3C.
Here’s the problem. As I mentioned, when I got the P3C I sold the P3SL. Mistake. Some fellow out there has it, it may be one of the bikes in these photos. My fault. I sold it. Stupid move. I should have kept it. It was the most advanced aluminum tri bike I had ever been on, one of the best tri bikes *period *that I have ever been on and I loved the stealthy, black “hardball” paint scheme. I loved that bike. The pragmatic side of me told me I didn’t need two tri bikes at the time, so I sold to someone here in the classifieds on ST. Duh. Big mistake selling that even considering how much I love my P3C.
Now, I am capable of learning however. I have *not *and will not sell my P3C. I’ve learned my lesson. I have a P4 coming… but I am also keeping my P3C because I’ve had so much success with it and I’ve learned to never let go of one of these when you get one you like.
Another thing I’ve learned about long-term relationships with bikes (and people): A good bike stays good so you should hang onto it. People change so you never know what to expect. When you find a good bike hang onto it. When you find a good person, expect a change…
Here is my P3SL:

and my newer P3C that I still own:

Tom I agree about the good bike thing…actually a good bike is like a good dog and the P3SL is a fine dog. Perhaps the best “metal” bike I have ever ridden. When I went to sell, I would not sell to anyone. The buyer had to be a close friend or someone that I felt would put at least 5000 miles per year on it and not use it as a roof rack ornament for his audi/beemer/benz.
Great bike.
To flyfishing11, sorry to hear about the mugging. But St. Croix is a great race. With my ankle broken now, I am already making plans to be there racing in 2010 when I race in 45-49 in the old guy division after moving out of the young boy club. Of course, it just means that the studs get faster and there are less Kona slots all around…darn!
Tom, actually I am more dissappointed that I sold my Aluminium Soloist. I rememeber at the back of my mind thinking that at 51, it was small enough that my son might be able to use it in a few years, when I sold it in 2007. Seems like the time has come when I could have fit that bike to both me and my son for some rides. I might have to go track one of them down for that purpose.
I’m on a 51cm alu soloist at the moment. Can’t agree more, i ride my Qroo but once a week these days.
You can get one for your son quite “cheap” on the second hand market. Mine was 1400 with >500 miles and full ultegra. Sorry to hear about the ankle.
It would not really be a bike for my son…more a bike for me that my son can use when we putter around. He’s going to get excited about watching the Tour de France, so we have good fun riding together around then…for me it is almost “walking intensity”, but it gets him out. I just have to make sure that I don’t take the video camera out on 60 kph descents with traffic driving by and show it to my wife again. What was I thinking anyway (note to self…what you do on the bike, stay on the bike…) ??? All I can say is that I am glad that my wife has never seen me coming down the side of a mountain in the Alps although she gets the general idea when we watch the TdF…she just does not want that going on with my son in the picture…its OK if I kill myself, but not him ![]()
Hi Tom -
I just picked up a P3SL frame and need to get a fork. I noticed you used the EC90 Aero fork on yours. Did you think it worked well with the frame? Stiff enough for descending and cornering with confidence? Any comment on it vs the Wolf TT or CL? Any other fork you’d suggest?
Thanks in advance…
Skiers have a saying that goes something along the lines of:
"NEVER leave GOOD powder to look for BETTER powder."
I think we can all apply that to some extent.
