with the offseaseon soon approaching and new goals in mind, i want to work alot harder over the winter and was wondering how everyone else changes up there training during this period. any advice, training plans, and etc. will be greatly appreciated!
What’s your weakest sport? Train that more. You’ll have time to work on elements like strength training, and daily workouts are not as important as racing season.
What are your weaknesses in racing? What would you like to improve most? What’s your background like? All of those questions should help in being able to find a “plan” that fits you better. MY best suggestion is to pick up a copy of one of Joe Friels books and write your own plan in assisting yourself. An online plan IMO is great for beginners, but probably not the best if you have talored goals in mind. I’d be happy to help with some basics once you answer my questions. I could probably take an hour of my time and plot out an entire basic off season guide, I was going to do this for myself anyways.
Thanks for all the help. I don’t want to take to much of your time but i appreciate all of the help and advice. my weakest part of the race is the swim. But there is a lot of improvement that could be made in the run.
and i will deffintely look into that book.
Consider joining a Masters Swim class. It’s really hard work, but worth the time and effort.
Masters swimming plus just more swimming. 4 days a week. Running in the off-season should be about base building. This will make you more efficient and faster. If you start and your zone 2 run is a 10 minute mile, then you keep working to become more efficient in running and your cardio improves and you come out the other side of the off-season doing a 8:30 mile still in zone 2 then your zone 3-4 run will also increase. Its free speed.
