I just picked up mountain biking this year after a big accident and I’m really enjoying it. I would still like to do triathlons but looking around I’ve only found 1 Xterra race in So Cal and 1 off road out in Lake Perris for next year.
Anyone know of any other off road tri’s in the area, or somewhere I can find more besides trifind.com?

SoCal has two Xterra’s. (3 if you count Vegas)
March to May has Xterra Renegade at Bonelli. I’ve seen the date move around.
July has Xterra Snow Valley up in the San Bernardino Mts.
Lake Perris has the Big Rock. One or two times a year.
I’m always looking for more as well.
I think Castaic and El Moro would make good venues.

You won’t find too many at all outside of the Xterra series, but I think trifind.com is actually pretty accurate. There just aren’t that many off road tris, period. It makes even the small ones pretty competitive, at least here on the east coast. You’ll get guys from New England with no qualms about coming down to race in NJ for a weekend, so everybody kind of knows everybody. It’s a blast.

The 2014 Xterra Season is pretty much winding down and they haven’t updated for next year yet. They take a little time finalizing the schedule because independent race directors put on the regional races (so a race like Bonelli). Most races will be up by the end of the year and you’ll probably still have some more trickle in until about March or so. Keep an eye on it. They typically don’t sell out that I know of so you got time.
The larger regional championships like Vegas (West) or Richmond (East) pretty much WILL happen. You can check this previous year’s schedule to get an idea of when they’ll take place. Good luck, I got hooked on Xterra 3 years ago and have pretty much stopped doing road tris, they are that much fun.
