Odyssey Off-Road Tri/Du Anyone?

I’m considering doing the odyssey half-extreme duathlon this fall.

I saw this thread here on it

Anyone else done the race (or any of the other ones happening that weekend) and want to share their thoughts on it? Fun? Well run? Scenic? etc… Wicked Hard?

Susana and Ron do a great job! Usually tough courses. I have done two of their Adventure races; Efix and Wild, Wonderful 24, this past April and May. If I wasn’t already signed up for Moo, I would have considered doing the duo.

I did the half-iron distance a couple of years back. The swim is pretty standard in a clean lake, and the ride is 95% fire roads. A cross bike would be great, or semi slicks on a mountain bike. A full suspension mtb is not needed and be ready to do a LOT of climbing. Just in case you missed that - there’s a lot of climbing, close to 9500’.

It’s self supported (no aid stations) so be prepared to carry everything with you on the bike and run. First half of the run is going up the side of a mountain and the second half is back down again.

For reference - I’m a strong mountain biker, and my road 1/2 IMs range from 5:15 - 5:35, and this one took me 9 hours.

The whole series of events (1/2tri, full-tri, du, relay, mtb, etc) had 100 people total. Well run by a great group of people and I look forward to doing it again some day.

I say go for it, you’ll love it.
