Odd sightings at IMNZ

i have to much free time apparently:

i was checking out all the pics from IMNZ at digtaltriathlon.com and noticed normann stadler wasn’t riding a Look bike, but a kuota?

and…this guy (kieren doe) is wearing his jersey backwards…?

http://www.digitaltriathlon.com/img-view.asp?id=2258

and…bryon rhodes is wearing a windshield over his entire face…(must be aero?)

http://www.digitaltriathlon.com/img-view.asp?id=2245

…the second two are making me giggle…can anyone tell me WHY?

That visor is the most horrific tri fashion faux pas I have seen in quite some time  That’s like some sort of ER facemask to protect from blood splatter or something.

I find it interesting that Stadler never seems to use a disc, wonder why that is ?

way too much time

This kind of windshield was used by kiwi Mat Brick in 91/92 when he became Duathlon World Champion in Palm Springs and Frankfurt(Germany). He even wrote an article in the UK tri rag “220” about the aerodynamical benefits of this setup. And Headway built a helmet that almost implemented this… But this helmet disappeared quite quickly from the market.

I remember when matt brick rode with a face sheild on his helmet all the time. Apparently it is quite aerodynamic, not to mention keeping bugs off your face

Those photos are nuthin’. If you really want to see a fashion statement have a look at the guys in the bottom photos on this page.

I can’t find sunglasses that actually protect my eyes on the bike when in the aero position. The angle and width of the bridge of my nose is the reason. Maybe that is part of the reason for the face shield?

That’s what I was going to say. Sweat drips down into the lenses of my shades, and I’m looking out over the top of them anyway when in the bars. The shield solves both of those problems. I wish I had one.
