Odd Jobs?

How do you put that on a resume? Dog Fluffer?

And don’t ask me about first-year Rockaway Beach lifeguards being sent out for some “jetty wrenches.”

For about a year I worked at The Miami Serpentarium; a roadside snake park and venom supply lab. Most of the job was trivial such as routine cleaning and giving tours but also extracting venom some of the collection animals. I wasn’t permitted to handle the most dangerous species such as taipans, mambas, king cobras, etc. but less lethal species such as rattlesnakes, cottonmouth, copperhead, etc. Ones that would ruin your weekend but no likely kill you.

I have a couple.

Contract work for International Rescue Committee. Taking refugees to SSA to get their SSN and card, and to DMV to get their DL or an ID card if they didn’t drive. This was mid 90s. Understand the people came from war torn countries and landed in the safety in the USA a few days or a week or two at most ago.

Early 2000s when I was still a young man and serious about racing tris I had a web site and even some minor sponsors. Wanted professional pictures for the website. Found a photographer. The cost was insane especially to a young guy. I was broke then. So the photog asked if I could be his model and he’d give me the pictures for free. OK cool. That’s how it started, and so I did modelling for about a year, action adventure, guy swimming in a lake with a storm in the background, guy trail running, guy riding up a mountain. We’d shoot for 7-8 hours to get that one perfect picture. Photog, two assistants, driver, studio lights, reflectors, the works, somewhere public. One time two older ladies were power walking past us and one asked if I was famous. Three days later the correct answer came to me in the shower: not yet. Damn it.

I don’t why this never clicked as an “odd job” to me?

I used to be one of the artists who drew The Campbell Kids (are they even still using them?)

Really? That’s cool as shit!

I have no idea if they’re a thing any longer though. But certainly remember them from childhood.
