I saw it yesterday, and it was ok. I really liked the first two, and honestly have mixed feelings with this one. Part of that is because of the theater. The film actually disintegrated about halfway through, (kind of a cool thing to see actually)leading to a 15 min delay until they started back up again. Anyway, here’s a quick review:
Ocean’s 13 is more of the same from Soderbergh, Clooney, Pitt and the gang. This time the Julia Roberts/Catherine Zeta Jones love interest is removed, and the motivation behind the newest scam is revenge against Al Pacino’s Willie Bank, a devious casino owner who has scammed Ruben (Eliot Gould) out of his land and money, leaving Ruben in the hospital following a heart attack. The film takes the usual twists and turns with the usual cool music and wardrobe and all the usual suspects. All the Ocean’s characters are present (except the women) with Andy Garcia reprising his role as the equally devious Terry Benedict, Roman Neagle (Eddy Izzard), Bruiser (blink and you’ll miss him) and even Toulour (the villain from Ocean’s 12) back in a minor role. The basic plot revolves around Danny and the gang working to rob Bank of most of the money in his brand new casino, sabotaging the 5 Diamond review Bank has his heart set on, and generally reeking havoc in revenge for Bank’s doublecross of Ruben. The cast is good as always with the additions of Pacino and Ellen Barkin (looking pretty good for 53) as the ambitious 2nd in command to Bank. The scam is complicated, but comes together at the end, as per usual. As you may have figured by now, there isn’t really anything new here. They group sticks to the formula, probably the key to success in a 2nd sequel. A couple of things distracted me. The screen captions were overdone, using weird fonts that gave them a comic book feel, instead of the smooth screen fonts used in the first two movies. Also, Ruben in a hospital bed just didn’t make as compelling a motivation as there was in the first two movies. As a result, I just didn’t think the movie flowed as well. Plus, the part where the film actually disintegrated which probably is influencing my feeling coming out of it. Overall, I’m sure this will be another money maker, and if you like the Ocean’s series, you’ll probably like this one too.
Not sure that I want to be as disappointed as after Ocean’s twelve…

I hear that a lot, but I liked 12.
I liked it. I loved 11, liked 12, liked 13. It’s just such a great cast and fun story. The cameo by Oprah was great.
Agree with Slowguy that Barkin looks fantastic. It’s great to see her on the big screen again. She may fuel the need for “cougars.”
Clooney is so dreamy, right up there with M. Lovato… ![]()

I too was disappointed with Ocean’s Twelve, but 13 was, IMHO, a great movie. Almost as good, if not better, than 11. I highly recommend it; as it was the most fun movie I have seen this year.
