Observation regarding 70.3 and USAT

Since all 70.3 races are now GTG insured that means two things:

  1. You’ll no longer earn USAT point for races like Buffalo Springs, Timberman, and Eagleman… for those that care about that sort of thing.

  2. GTG requires a 1 day license ($10) to race. So far it does not appear there is an annual license. If you plan on racing several 70.3/IMNA races next year expect to pay an additional $10 for each.

I’m curious to see what happens with this series. I’m doing both Eagleman and Timberman next next year and it would be kind of cool to qualify for the race in Florida. I hope the series grows into a true world championship. It would be cool to race against the best in the world even though I guess the competition at Eagleman is as tough as it gets.

I don’t think the 10 bucks will be a big deal due to the price of races in the first place. What’s another 10 bucks?

“”“It would be cool to race against the best in the world”“”

I seriously doubt that a self proclaimed world championship wil draw the best athletes from around the world. Maybe the US based athletes.

so to race here in florida where i live i’d have to go race somewhere else first?

No.

You could qualify at the Disney 70.3 in the spring.

I agree, but that’s why I said I hope it grows into a true world championship. Is there currently a half IM distance championship that you have to qualify for?

I’m actually more concerned about the price of the races skyrocketing to 200+ bucks each than I am the 10 bucks a day.

With each of these races now part of the same “qualifing” banner under IMNA I have a hard time believeing that overtime they will not all be charging teh same price just like IM’s. With that being said the most expensive one will not get cheaper but more expensive and the rest will charge the same.

At the same time people will flock to these “qualifers” like everyone does to IMNA IM’s and the rest of the good quality non M-dot HIM’s will die out.

ITU annually conducts the World Long Course Championship with qualifying age-groupers representing every country – This year in Frederecia, next year Canberra Australia. A true qualifying event and “olympics like” representation from member countries. Also the US Half Championships have just completed their second year.

I don’t expect to join USAT… 3 races next year, 1 USAT, 2 GTG… That’s all she wrote and I’m not out anything more then I would have spent if I had joined USAT…
